What to Expect
Explore the ruins of the ancient royal Khmer city of Angkor Thom on a half-day guided tour from Siem Reap, and see the famous temples and buildings among the thick growth of fig trees and tangled roots.
Go to the Bayon Temple, also known as the 4-Faced Temple. Centerpiece of the Angkor Thom complex, and one of the most richly decorated temples of the Khmer Empire, the Bayon’s most distinctive feature is the hundreds of stone carved faces on its many towers.
You will see the enigmatic face of King Jayavarman VII in every direction as you continue to the Terrace of the Elephants, where Angkor rulers would wait to greet their returning victorious armies.
Go to the Terrace of the Leper King to see detailed carvings winding along a narrow passageway to the Baphuon complex. If time allows, you can visit some of the other temples in the area, and learn more about the former capital of Jayavarman VII's empire.
