The floating village of Kampong Phluk is 28km east of Siem Reap and set among lush, often-flooded mangroves. This fishing village of distinctive stilt houses boasts an ever-changing landscape due to Cambodia's dramatic wet and dry seasons. On this small-group tour, get an up-close view of the lifestyle and culture of this unique south east Asian lake community.
Far from being a 'human zoo', the people of Kampong Phluk are, for the most part, thriving and happy to see foreigners. They are always ready with smiles and you'll find the children in particular are friendly and inquisitive. Their lifestyle is sustainable and self-sufficient and tourism is an important part of the local economy.
Our expert Khmer guide will enrich your experience and give you insight into the way of life of these communities. Chilled water is provided throughout, and charter boat is the perfect way to experience the mighty Tonle Sap!
Our guide and driver will collect you from your accommodation prior to the start of the tour. Next we head to Roluos, a small town on the way to the Tonle Sap, where you'll explore a traditional, authentic Cambodian market and have the chance to try delicious street food. After that, we head to the waterfront, where you'll hop into a charter boat to continue the journey by river.
Meander amongst the stilt-houses and see the locals going about their business. We then disembark at a stunning Hindu/Buddhist church, covered in colourful murals which illustrate how Hinduism and Buddhism coexist in Cambodia. Finally, head out onto the mighty Tonle Sap itself for a cool drink and a sunset you'll never forget.
After sundown, the guide and driver will take you back to your accommodation in Siem Reap.
