Travel deep into the communities around Siem Reap with a local guide who was born here! Meet the locals and experience their way of life in an up-close and personal way.
What to Expect
Travel is the chance to experience the other, to step into another's culture and experience the wonders of the world around us. Cultural tourism is a delicate industry, and we strive to present you to a local village in a thoughtful and careful way, so as not to disturb their native way of life, while giving you an inclusive experience you will never forget!
On our Back to Basics tour, you'll have the chance to explore and experience a unique village from the perspective of the villagers themselves. We will take you deep into the communities around Siem Reap for a hands on experience, including detailed conversations during lunch and your day in the village.
The best thing about the Back to Basics tour is our commitment to bringing you this experience in a non-destructive way. Many tour operators bring groups to villages, but ours is special -- your guide was born in this village and works with the village chief to ensure your experience is one you cannot find anywhere else. You will have the chance to snap photos and meet the locals, but in a way that most other tour groups fail to find -- with the permission and good will of those we are visiting.
The tour begins at 9am from your local guest house, where your expert guide will meet you and transport you via air-conditioned car or minivan to this amazing village approximately 25miles (40km) from Siem Reap. Along the way, you will be given a detailed description of what awaits us, with a detailed understanding of the villages we will visit. You will learn how the communities work together, helping each other with daily activities and neighborly advice, and your expert guide will be there to answer any of your questions.
Once we arrive, we enter into a working village where you can meet the local families who still weave baskets, dig wells, and make rice wine all by hand as they have done for centuries. We will share lunch with our host family under the shade of a coconut and banana tree. It is a truly immersive experience.
As you continue your journey, listen for the sounds of traditional Khmer music played by local musicians. You may have the chance to meet with a local teacher, or builder who is working to bring clean water to the community. Our goal is to share with you our culture in a unique and appropriate way, and we are sure you will leave with a much deeper appreciation of these magnificent cultures around Siem Reap.
