Sophea picked me up and took me to her house (1 min. walk). It was nice to see a local's home and life around the house. (Brother and others doing tile work around the garden, little niece kept peeking to see what we were doing ect.) Then I got the Cambodian skirt wrapped around me and Sophea began to tell about her history and about dans and Cambodia. After we started with the dans moves. Mostly the hands and arms, and because I couldn't sit on the floor too long, we did a bit standing up as well. As we danced she explained what the different moves meant which was so interesting! She really understood that my western body couldn't make certain moves and she was very helpful and kind! I think it was a really nice experience and a great introduction to Apsara dans! Thank you Sophea! (And it makes watching the dans now so much more interesting and I now know how hard it is!)
My friend and I took the metal bracelet class because we wanted a one-of-a-kind handmade souvenir. With that being said, it was hard work to hammer out the design. However, our guide patiently assisted us throughout the entire bracelet making process. It was definitely a unique activity, and we had a great time making our bracelets.
There was some confusion with the booking when we arrived but it was sorted fairly quickly. Workshop was fun, the guide was patient and helpful. We all have a unique individual bracelet and a great sense of achievement as well as a new respect for the artists who create handmade jewellery. Great way to spend a few hours.
My friend and I had such a great time at Sophea’s dance class! She not only taught us the aspara dance moves (which are much harder than they look), but also told us the meaning behind them, as well as shared her experience as a dancer in the royal palace.
Great experience! Definitely recommend. The pottery teachers were amazing at helping to craft a great piece to take home. We paid the extra to bring home two of our creations (only an extra $5). Would definitely recommend it!
