Full description

Grab your camera for a sunset van ride to the Saline di Trapani e Paceco nature reserve. Snap photos of flamingos, avocets and other birds. Check out the plains where salt has been harvested for centuries. Meet your driver and guide at your hotel before heading out of town to the reserve. There are almost 1000 hectares where birds can roam. Bring our binoculars for a good view while keeping a respectful distance. Stop at the Maria Stella mill for a free walk (salt mountains and basins) Photo stop at the Chiusicella Salt Mine Stop at the Culcasi Salt Mine to visit the historic windmill that has been turned into a museum. Learn how people have harvested salt at the site for centuries. Take the Salinaro trail and take a ride aboard the salt basins, you will have unforgettable memories. Watch the sun set over the Mediterranean. Capture the colors reflected in the salt mines, some final shots of the birds or a few selfies before returning to Trapani. You will see one of the most beautiful sunsets you have ever seen.

I found this tour to be great value for money. The gentleman managing the tour was very organised and dressed up well. He came to pick people up in a timely manner and was very clear about departure times when we visited different places. He was also kind to pick me up all the way from the Trapani-Erice cable car. During the ride, we listened to an audio about the salt pans in Italian and English and in the museum, one could choose to get the English or Italian tour, which was great. I think the time reserved for the museum stop was perfect and also the museum staff was very kind and attentive though we visited at a quite busy time.

It was a wonderful experience overall! They come to pick you up where you stay. It's a small group (max 8). The driver is very friendly, kind and knowledgeable, and there is also a bilingual audio guide playing while moving from one place to another. The highlight of the visit is the final destination, the Salt Museum of Nubia. Our guide of the museum was so knowledgeable and inteactive, and it was very stimulating and interesting to learn about the traditional way of making natural salt in the area. The visit concludes with spending time on strolling, taking photos and getting relaxed in the salt field with amazing views until the sun goes down. I just take off one star for the lack of the organization of the pick-up time... This cam be fixed easily in the future, I hope and believe. Other than this, I was satisfied. Highly recommended.

The driver was very pleasant, courteous, and punctual, and the transport was pristine and comfortable. The tour guide at the salt pans was good and did a separate tour for the English for the non-Italians which I appreciate. But I felt the whole experience was lacking somehow. I’m not sure what I expected but this wasn’t it. Perhaps being able to get a drink at the end to watch the sunset but the bar/restaurant were rushed off their feet and too manic to serve us which was a pity. After the way the salt pans are bigged up, I’d hoped to enjoy it more. I did buy some 1kg bags of salt to take home so that’s a plus. If you want to see the salt pans but don’t have a car it’s worth booking this trip as it’s door to door. Dress warmly as most of it’s outside in the evening.
