Visit St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai, where Moses received The 10 Commandments. A place of ancient lore and tradition, you will walk up the mountain with a Bedouin guide before driving to Dahab for lunch.
What to Expect
St. Catherine’s Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Sinai, has attracted pilgrims for centuries. It is one of the oldest working Christian monasteries in the world and boasts a treasure chest of religious documents and icons.
Set against a rugged mountainous backdrop, this sacred and magical place can easily be reached from Sharm El Sheikh in a couple of hours. On this excursion you will be picked up from your Sharm hotel at 07:00, for a transfer by comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle through the Sinai Peninsula.
Once at Mount Sinai, sacred to Muslims, Christians and Jews alike, you will be met by a Bedouin guide who will lead you on an ascent of the revered mountain ahead of the fierce midday sun and following a welcome breakfast.
Hear the story of how the monastery was founded by the empress Helena, and later dedicated to the martyr St. Catherine of Alexandria. Legend has it that St. Catherine was carried to Sinai on the wings of angels.
You will have time to enjoy the views of South Sinai and see some of the miraculous treasures in the monastery buildings, the color of honey.
Departing St. Catherine’s you will drive for approximately 2 hours to Dahab on the Red Sea Riviera.
The former Bedouin fishing village is a popular destination for divers and windsurfers. It takes its name from the Arabic word for “gold” and is a precious sight on the Gulf, with a lively beach promenade.
Soak up the riviera atmosphere before your return transfer to Sharm El Sheikh. You will be dropped-off at your Sharm El Sheikh hotel in the evening.
