Gaze across the Sinai Desert on an amazing day trip to St. Catherine’s Monastery, where Moses received the 10 Commandments. Continue to Dahab and explore the “Flower Power” city of the Red Sea.
What to Expect
Explore one of the holiest places in the world on a day trip from Sharm el Sheikh, driving through the Sinai Desert to St. Catherine’s Monastery in the remote city of the same name. You will depart early in the morning to escape the afternoon desert heat, and travel in air-conditioned comfort on the 130-mile drive through a fantastically arid landscape.
Once at St. Catherine’s, admire the ancient Sinai Mountains, and retrace the footsteps of Moses as he climbed Mount Sinai to receive the 10 Commandments. Among the monastery’s treasures is a library of ancient manuscripts, and icons that are second only to the Vatican’s. You will also see the 6th-Century church reputed to lie directly on the site of the Burning Bush.
Next head to Dahab, the “Flower Power City” in the Red Sea for a city tour and shopping stops to stock up on souvenirs and gifts. Watch the windsurfers off the coast, and soak up the colorful atmosphere of the one-time Bedouin fishing village. After lunch at a local restaurant, relax and enjoy the drive back to your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.
