Seville Cathedral: Top 5 architectural highlights

Seville's preeminent attraction, the Seville Cathedral, is the third-largest church in the world. A sublime specimen of Gothic architecture with a fascinating history, the cathedral is a formidable human achievement that will certainly take your breath away.

Giralda

The cathedral's famous bell tower, called Giralda, was originally built as a minaret in the late 12th century. The stunning, 105-meter-tall tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Main Chapel

The Capilla Mayor, the cathedral's main chapel, has the longest nave of any cathedral in Spain. Its 42-meter-high ceiling is lavishly decorated in Gothic and Baroque styles.

Altarpiece

The Capilla Mayor's retablo, aka altarpiece, is the largest in Christendom. This sublime masterpiece was entirely carved out of wood, depicting 42 scenes from the life of Christ.

The Cathedral's Doors

In total, the cathedral has 15 doors, each featuring a distinct architectural style and decorated with beautiful, extremely ornate reliefs and carvings.

Christopher Columbus' Tomb

In this gorgeous monument, Columbus' casket is held aloft by four statues, each representing one of the four kingdoms that comprised Spain during the explorer's life.

Enjoy the view from the tower

Although it's a long climb to the top of the Giralda, it's not an overly difficult one, and those who brave it are rewarded with one of the most spectacular views of the entire city – don't miss out!

Bring your ID

As children under the age of 16 accompanied by an adult don't have to pay the admission fee, remember to bring their IDs to be sure to enjoy the concession. The same is true for seniors and students who want to take advantage of discounted tickets.

What People Are Saying About Seville Cathedral

Don't hesitate- a superb way to see the city

We were escorted by Naan, who gave us a wonderfully entertaining tour. She was full of interesting, less traditional facts, which kept us all amused and engaged ( 2 adults, one 13 ,one 12 year old) . The bikes are fun to use, but it's not just a sit and glide around experience- not strenuous, but really good fun. After four days in Seville , including a day trip to Jerez, we all felt that this was one of the top highlights of our stay.

Excellent day, an overview of the important landmarks of the city

The tour is a whistle stop of most of the landmarks in Saville. Our tour guide Paco with a dry sense of humour made the 2 hour journey a little entertaining. The tour focused on the cathedral which was magnificent. Generally a good day & the weather was kind, the rain ceased to allow us to walk about comfortably.

Pleasant morning visiting the Alcazar and Cathedral

We booked this tour specifically to visit the Alcazar and Cathedral. The guide was very pleasant and provided detailed information about Seville and both monuments. It was a nice tour at a good pace - starting at the Alcazar and ending at the Cathedral. We finished the tour and could climb the Giralda tower if we wanted to on our own. The group is kept small so that we could have a personal experience. This is also a skip the line tour so we didn't have to queue up at the entrances of both the Alcazar and the Cathedral.

Electric bike ! Yes when it is 38 degrees it a breeze

What a fine way to explore the city , we are so glad we took the tour . The guide was informative and humour was mixed in with the facts , electric bikes are a great way to get around with not much effort , so even though it was 38 degrees on the day . Would recommend. Thanks

So much more learnt by a very good guide

An excellent way to "jump the queues " but better than that was a very informative guide. Thoroughly recommended tour.
