Serra da Estrela Natural Park

After being picked up in a minivan from your hotel in Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia, begin your tour to one of the biggest mountains in continental Portugal. Enjoy the magnificent views, valleys, rivers, and lagoons. Discover the region which is also rich in tradition, history, culture, and gastronomy. Visit the Serra da Estrela cheese factory which produces a creamy scented cheese that is appreciated across the country. Enjoy a tour of the factory and taste some cheese for yourself. Make a stop at the Bread Museum and learn about the traditional bread of the region called Seia bread. Learn about bread making tradition and try some samples. After this, enjoy free time to explore the mountains, ride the chairlift, and participate in snow activities in the winter.

Day 1:  Leaving from Lisbon at 8 am towards Serra da Estrela. The first stop will be in the city of Covilhã, one of the most important cities of Serra da Estrela. After a little climb up the mountain, you will have a break for lunch at a restaurant with a fantastic view of the mountains and a wonderful regional cuisine! After lunch, visit the village of Alvares Cabral, the navigator who discovered Brazil - Belmonte. Visit the medieval castle, the house of the Jews and other places on this charming town. The journey continues through the interior of the mountain, passing by Manteigas and the fantastic Glacier Valley. In Manteigas, you will be able to enjoy a fantastic dinner at a local restaurant and rest in a friendly typical hotel accommodation of the small town. Day 2:  After a breakfast that can not be missed, climb up to Torre, the highest point of Serra da Estrela, through one of the most spectacular and beautiful roads in the mountains. On the way down the mountain, you will make a stop at Lagoa Comprida and will continue towards Sabugueiro, where you will find several shops with local delicacies such as mountain cheese and regional sausages, among others. Continue the trip to Nisa and through the mountain foothills you will get to the fantastic medieval village of Folgosinho, where a fantastic meal will be awaiting with all the local delicacies. Continue to Linhares da Beira, one of the most beautiful historical villages of Portugal and visit its incredible medieval castle. In the evening, return to Lisbon.
