Full description

Journey to one of the most meaningful tourist destinations in the world at the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the border of South and North Korea. Gain an understanding of Korean history and culture. First, visit Imjingak Park. See the Bridge of Freedom, used by prisoners of war who were repatriated from the North. Next, head to the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, an incomplete passage built by North Korea that runs under the Demilitarized Zone. Discovered in 1978, the tunnel passes through bedrock 240 feet (73 m) below ground. You can go inside the tunnel on foot.

Once you're back on the surface, your guide will take you up the slopes of Mount Dora for a look across the country from the Dorasan Observatory. In good weather, you can see all the way to North Korea without using the observatory's telescope. Look out at the 2.4-mile (4-km) stretch of the DMZ that has divided Korea since 1953 before you return to Seoul.

Must-do tour when in South Korea for the first time (in my opinion). Guide Jung did a great job outlining history and significance of events and landmarks. I would've liked to spend some more time at the exhibits at the 3rd Tunnel and the Dora Observatory, but every tourist group only gets a certain amount of time inside the DMZ, this did not appear to me to be the tour's fault.

I’m 55, 6 feet tall, and overweight. Doing the tunnel was difficult, but I’m glad I went though. I have been climbing stairs and hill a little lately so I thought it would be no trouble. The bending over for the 10 minutes was difficult and walking up the hill at the end.

We had a very interesting tour with Mrs Jung visiting the DMZ. She provided us with a lot of information and interesting facts about the history and current developments. If you are interested to see this part of the country and want to unterstand more about the North-South conflict we would absolutely recommend it. You should know that the time table is very strict but that’s the same with all the tours. We felt we had enough time at each sight but don’t expect to be able to wander around for hours on your own.
