Full description

Journey to one of the most meaningful tourist destinations in the world at the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the border of South and North Korea. Gain an understanding of Korean history and culture. First, visit Imjingak Park. See the Bridge of Freedom, used by prisoners of war who were repatriated from the North. Next, head to the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, an incomplete passage built by North Korea that runs under the Demilitarized Zone. Discovered in 1978, the tunnel passes through bedrock 240 feet (73 m) below ground. You can go inside the tunnel on foot.

Once you're back on the surface, your guide will take you up the slopes of Mount Dora for a look across the country from the Dorasan Observatory. In good weather, you can see all the way to North Korea without using the observatory's telescope. Look out at the 2.4-mile (4-km) stretch of the DMZ that has divided Korea since 1953 before you return to Seoul.

This is a must-do on any South Korea itinerary. It’s an exceptional way to learn more about the history of Korea, the plight of defectors and the hopes for the future. Stopping by some of the most historical sites before glimpsing the North helps to contextualise and enhance appreciation for the whole day. Excellently organised, our guides ensured we had the best experience possible by maximising time at each location. The guides are incredibly knowledgable and friendly.

guide was excellent! funny and clear in her instructions. waiting time for bus to go into DMZ was 1.5 hours. tunnel experience very interesting but make sure you are fit enough to walk back. actual time at border taking a look into North Korea only 15 minutes. would have liked to stay longer but understand that time is limited to allow everyone the experience. can be limited by clouds but in our case excellent weather. at the DMZ village they sell high quality rice which can be delivered to Seoul for 5k KRW.

There is not a wasted second in this tour. Every part of it is essential viewing. For me it ends on its strongest note: looking into North Korea using mounted telescopes. Seeing the giant NK flag rising out of the mist and the people cycling about their day in heavily degraded cities, it was profound. The guide was also amazing! She was engaging, informative, and funny. Really made the trip more enjoyable.
