Full description
Meet us at Raufarhólshellir lava tunnel and experience one of the longest and best-known lave tubes in Iceland. Embark on an unforgettable adventure through a natural phenomenon, just 30 minutes drive from the capital. As the tunnel is a work of nature, the terrain can be quite rough and hard to maneuver. A footbridge has been built inside the lava tube to make it easier to navigate and lights have been installed to further enhance the experience and highlight the ever-changing colors, landscape and geological formations. Cave Raufarhólshellir is one of the most expansive lava tubes in Iceland with its ceiling usually around 10 m (30 ft) high. Follow the route of the footbridge with your guide as they explain the geological formations. Hear entertaining tales of Hollywood adventures, its ties with the ancient Indian tribes and other enjoyable tidbits. The standard tour takes approximately 1 hour and is suitable for anyone comfortable walking on an uneven surface and up and down steep stairs. Please note that this booking is for the standard tour without pick-up.

The lava tunnel was very interesting - various colors and types of stone and formations, etc. The guide was quite informative, personable, and humorous. The tour was worth the money. The guide even took everyone's pictures at the end (with their own phone or camera). Dress warmly - it was about 4 degrees Celsius (39 Fahrenheit) inside the tunnel. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was essentially because of others in our tour. They kept taking pictures instead of keeping up with the group. The guide had told us she'd stop during the walk in 3 times to explain our surroundings, and that on the way back we could leisurely take pictures. Unfortunately she waited for those taking pics on the way in, which was aggravating to those of us who followed instructions.

      Wonderful

Unfortunately we arrived too late, but it was absolutely no problem to move to the next appointment. The lava cave is worth a visit. You do not even believe how nature can fascinate you. Our guide was really entertaining and made the whole thing even more exciting. Only the price could be a tick smaller for the walk.

It was a great experience to walk through the tunnel made thousands of years ago by flowing lava. The guide was entertaining and informative, and we learned a lot of fun and interesting facts about this formation. The tunnel is close to Reykjavik, so this was a nice and short morning tour.
