Top attractions in Segovia
If medieval architecture, Gothic cathedrals, and Romanesque churches are up your alley, you need to visit Segovia. The attractions in Segovia are rooted in its past, making tourism both fascinating and educational. A real jewel in Spain's crown.
This castle is located in the old town and if you think it looks like a scene from a movie, all turrets and twisting stairways, you're right - it inspired Disney!
This feat of Roman engineering is shrouded in mystery - it's so old no one has yet managed to date it! Local legend has it that Satan himself built it, in a single night, no less.
A trip to Spain is often punctuated by cathedrals and churches, but save your energy for this one - it's one of the very best. Tours are in Spanish and take in the artwork.
The monastery opens from 11:00AM to 5:00PM, unless you book a group tour through the Segovia tourism office. It offers great views across the walled city, so take a camera.
This unusual building, decorated with hundreds of granite peaks, is worth a walk-by, as part of a wander around the capital, or along a shady walk towards the aqueduct.
Play medieval knight here, with a walk around the famed and historic walls of Segovia. Enjoy pretty views and learn about the city's history – entry with audio guide is 1.50€.
This small, charming plaza offers a statue of Juan Bravo and the 14th-century Torreón de Lozoya. There's also plenty of nearby shops and restaurants to help soak up the atmosphere.
Segovia is a popular day trip destination from Madrid (it's around an hour's drive), as there's plenty to see and do here and much of it can be squeezed into a day. Do a bit of planning to work out how long you need - history or architecture buffs may want a little longer to explore.
This city offers delicious food at cheaper prices than nearby Madrid. Try the local suckling pig or bean stew for a real taste of the region.

What people are saying about Segovia
“The tour was very good and complete, we had a great day! Our guide Paula was great and managed the tour very well in both languages (English and Spanish). Our driver Enrique was also very nice. All three towns were beautiful and we spend a good amount of time in each to see the main places. Lunch was also good. I do recommend both the tour and the company. My only suggestion would be to have a larger vehicle (more space, not more people) because the vehicle we had was pretty small for such a long day and the visibility was limited because of the tall seats and small windows”.
The tour itself was excellent. We had a great guide (Elisa) but the booking process was a nightmare. Online booking was good but we were not clearly informed to exchange printed voucher for a ticket. Why not make the voucher the ticket already? Streamline the process. We left 35 minutes late because half of us did not know our vouchers were not the actual ticket. Will recommend the tour but not the Julia Tours.
From the collection in a private minbus to the after flight breakfast the trip was highly professional, safe and fun! Lots of attention to detail to make it very special. Following the flight the trip included a guided city tour with a friendly informative guide ensuring that you had some free time for coffee and rest break as well as entrance into the cathedral and palace. Thank you get your guide!
Nice big tour bus with a restroom. Our male guide was fluent in English & Spanish. (Forgot his name!!) Charming & helpful. So nice to not have to worry about driving or parking. Saw plenty in both towns. Good to be able to quickly get in to the alcazar & the cathedral. Just wish the day had more hours so we could have spent even longing. Would have loved to wonder & shop more. Next time!!!
Or guide was amazing! Spoke fluent English AND Spanish, and knew everything about everywhere we went... I can't recommend this tour enough! We were always provided with maps, and guidance on how to get wherever we wanted to. If I'm back in Madrid, I'll definitely do an IBE tour again!
