With its incredible setting in a gorge above the river Dordogne, this fortress village is especially famous for its historical monuments and in particular its sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is this sanctuary that has attracted pilgrims from around the world for centuries.
On your tour, your guide will take you to the renowned Notre Dame Chapel, part of an extraordinary 13th-century chapel complex. Perched on a cliff, the complex was built on the site of a shrine to the Madonna, the shrine became famous for its healing powers, and soon became a stop on the pilgrimage path to Santiago de Campostela. Today the mesmorizing place attracts more than one million visitors every year.
After the tour enjoy some free time to explore the quaint medieval village and its surrounds before returning to Sarlat.
