What people are saying about Sarlat-la-Canéda
Benoit, our guide, was knowledgeable and interesting. We were driven in a comfortable Mercedes with one additional client. We had a bad start at Rouffingnac where we were added to a tour given exclusively in German by a multi-lingual guide who spoke exclusively in German and made no attempt to include us with the odd word of English. We did have a small tablet with a brief description in English but it was difficult to know which part we were on. At the end when the German tourists gave a rousing round of applause, we felt thoroughly cheated and more than a little angry. At Les Eyzies, Benoit give us a well informed guide through the main exhibits. Lascaux IV, was amazing and the fact it was a copy made little difference. The whole experience was first class. We joined a tour given in English by a Frenchman who was both interesting and amusing. Afterwards Benoit gave us a personalized tour of the other exhibits plus some time to self explore. overall a good day if expensive
Our group (with participants from New Zealand, USA and Germany) had an amazing day with Florence and went through the Prehistory Museum, Rouffignac caves (on a little electric train) and then finally the brand-new Lascaux IV. Florence’s passion for, and interest in, prehistory and cave art really shone through and she did a great job of giving us further context about the local area and what we would see in each location. I had a fantastic day and am really stoked to have ticked this off my bucket list. Florence even went above and beyond assisting me to arrange a taxi back to Brive after the tour. A very solid five stars.
Website was thorough, meeting spot was easy to find, tour guide was exceptional. Had a full 9 hours of a fabulous tour which we were having a hard time figuring out how to put together on our own. Florence, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable of history, caves, art, surrounding countryside, legends, culture, etc. It was the perfect way to see and understand the area.
We toured the prehistory museum, the cave at Rouffignac and Lascaux IV. I would have liked to skip the pre history museum and instead stopped at the troglodyte village and the grotte du grand roc. Guide Marion was excellent. Van was very comfortable. There were 5 folks in the van. I suggest more time outdoors and less in museums.
Our two young, passionate & knowledgeable guides coupled with the amazingly beautiful towns & cave art. We were delighted to get to go into the Rouffignac cave itself & see the original art itself. Also the pre-history museum was awesome & Lascaux IV is very very well done.
