Full description
Meet at Sarajevo City Hall then head towards the Miljacka River, home to the Romeo and Juliet Bridge. The bridge itself has simple architecture but offers great views of the river. However, the attraction of the bridge is the romantic yet tragic story that surrounds it. On the tour, listen to your guide tell the tale of the couple who died on the bridge in 1992 whilst trying to flee the Bosnian War. Hear the story of how the couple woke early to escape but were sadly killed by a sniper while crossing the bridge. Their bodies remained on the bridge for 8 days after their death, until they were removed by the Serbian Army. Your guide also shares information about the name of the bridge and the deaths of Olga and Suada, who were also killed here while participating in anti-war protests. By the end of the tour, you’ll have a better understanding of the bridge’s history and symbolism, as well as the events and effects of the Bosnian War on the local community.
