Full description

Begin the excursion with an introduction to cetaceans (whales and dolphins) and other marine species, their natural habitat, communication, migration, and behavioral patterns. After the briefing, board the designated boat and head out to sea. Approach the whales slowly and carefully as the naturalist guides and marine biologists on board provide commentary. Next, take a tour around the Princess Ring Islet of Vila Franca do Campo, for an up-close look at the volcano and resident wildlife. Light food is permitted on board, and a camera is essential to capture the wildlife you spot on the tour.

The meeting point is Terra Azul base, Marina of Vila Franca do Campo, 4, 9680 São Miguel, Azores Islands. From Ponta Delgada town center by auto, head east along the coast and follow the signs to Vila Franca do Campo. Once in Vila Franca do Campo, descend toward sea level and the marina where the tour operator's base and yellow boats are located, and free street parking can be found.

Because of bad ocean conditions we had to cut the first trip short without seeing any animals. Terra azul gave us the option to reschedule our trip which we did. It was amazing, we saw dolphins, a whale and even a turtle. The crew is super nice, knows a ton about the ocean and animals and helps you if you have difficulties or answers any question. Loved it and recommend it :-)

The tour was so fun! We didn’t see any whales, but we saw 2 different species of dolphins. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The boat is designed well so that everyone can see. It was a great experience overall! The ocean decides what you see!
