Explore with us some rural towns in Portugal. Start from Praça dos Restauradores in front of Padaria Portuguesa and with our Italian guide going to the first place. We will arrive in Obidos along the " Atlantica " highway after about 1 hour of travel. We will visit the old Medieval Castle and its historical centre, stopping to experience of " Ginginha " typical liquor. Soon after we will leave the ancient village towards the Lagoon of Obidos, the largest salt lake in Portugal with flows directly to ocean sea. We will continue our journey to Nazaré, a very welcoming fishing village. There will be visit the upper part of the city with its Sanctuary, dedicated to Virgin of Nazaré to whom the miracle of flowers is attribuited. In the main square you bill able to see the stalls selling dried fruit where the woman wear a typical and ancient clothes. The Nazaré canyon, a natural formation making a massively deep and large hole in the sea floor right next to the shoreline, creates massive waves that make this spot, Praia do Norte, a Meca for adventurous surfers all around the world. The canyon also hides a Nazi submarine, which was sunk there on purpose never to be found again... We will also visit the Sanctuary and Memory Chapel, and will be able to have a breathtaking view of Nazaré and a great deal of the Silver Coast shore (all the way to the Berlengas Islands). Last but for sure not least, you will also get to know Nazaré itself, a one-of-a-kind traditional fishing village, its narrow alleys facing the sea, and its old traditions like the “Dry Fish” and the puzzling “sights” of local women wearing their famous seven skirts.

The tour begins with a pick-up from your Hotel and an approximately 1h15m drive to Fátima. This private tour focuses on Fátima, Batalha, Nazaré, Óbidos and it's main monuments and attractions. Nevertheless this program can be changed to best suit your preferences as it is solely for the purpose of your enjoyment. Once in Fátima you'll see the magnificence of both the old and the new basilicas and the open praying field in the sanctuary where 250,000 people pray at the famous candle processions in the main historical dates, the 12/13th of May and the 12/13th of October. Next, visit the church of the Batalha's Monastery, one of the most emblematic gothic buildings in Portugal, built as a homage for the victory in the Battle of Aljubarrota. It is possible to visit the full monastery inside if you wish.  Then proceed to Nazaré where we can have lunch and afterward visit the wave sighting area, and admire the view of the village from atop the cliff where the main Sanctuary of Nazaré is. As Nazaré is (still today) a fishing village, the main restaurants and dishes include some of the best fish and seafood in the country and the world.  After Nazaré, head to Óbidos, a beautifully preserved medieval village where you will taste the famous Ginginha (Cherry Liquor) in a chocolate cup, and have time to stroll through the village with its magnificent castle and buy some souvenirs if you wish.  Return to the hotel approximately at 6:30 PM.

A great day out with Philip. He kept us on track for a jam packed day. He gave great historic and more timely information about Portugal and the locations visited. I would strongly recommend this particular tour. History, religious significance and the great outdoors rolled into one.

Phillip was very knowledgeable and very helpful. The tour ended up taking more than 8 hours and he’s still very patiently guiding us thru the evening. We truly enjoyed Fatima and Obidos visits.

Joao was well informed and explained topics in an interesting manner. He was kind,patient and answered all questions about the sites we visited in detail.
