Rome: Crucis Saints Peter & Paul 3-Hour Pilgrim Walking Tour

Rome: Crucis Saints Peter & Paul 3-Hour Pilgrim Walking Tour

For Catholic pilgrims to Rome before and during the Holy Jubileum Year of 2025 our Saints Peter & Paul Pilgrim Tour is an essential spiritual experience. Join us as we venerate their lives and suffering with scriptural reference and a deep knowledge gleaned from genuine devotion and theological study. On our way, we’ll see the chains that bound each of them, the sarcophagus of St Paul and even an original Michelangelo! Our tour begins at the Fountain of the Porter on a tiny side street just a stone’s throw from Via del Corso and our first destination is the Church of Santa Maria in Via Lata. Consecrated as a church following the legalisation of Christianity in the Roman Empire in the 5th century, it is at this location that St Paul was kept under house arrest for two years. Moving on, we’ll follow Via del Corso down through Piazza Venezia, passing the mesmerising spectacle that is the Victor Emmanuel II National Monument on our way to the Mamertine Prison Museum. An imperial prison for those considered dangerous enemies of the Roman state in ancient times, both Saints Peter and Paul were incarcerated here before their eventual executions. Our next stop is the magnificent Basilica of St Peter in Chains, perched high up near the Colle Oppio park which offers stupendous views of the Colosseum. Known locally as San Pietro in Vincoli, this stunning church is home to the chains that bound St Peter in Jerusalem as well as Michelangelo’s original statue of Moses. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, as the saying goes, and so following on from our visit to St Peter in Chains you’ll experience life as a 21st century Roman citizen when we take the metro five stops down the blue line to the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls. One of the four Major Basilicas of Rome, St Paul’s is an essential element on the itinerary of any pilgrim to Rome and is the location of one of the four Holy Doors that will be open during the Jubileum year so that those who pass through it may receive Partial Indulgence. Founded by the Emperor Constantine in the early 4th century—the same emperor who finally legalised Christianity in 313—San Paolo is a treasure trove of rich symbolism and catechism, and home to the sarcophagus of St Paul himself. Here is where our Saints Peter & Paul Pilgrim Tour reaches its conclusion. To get back into the historical centre you can make the same short trip back on the metro, though you may well be tempted to explore this typically Roman suburban neighbourhood with its diverse architecture, famous murals and myriad of great spots to eat lunch.

Alberto’s tour was 11/10! My 11 year old son and I enjoyed every minute of the tour. Alberto picked a mixture of iconic and less “touristy” sites for us to stop at. It was an itinerary only a true Roman would plan (which Alberto is!) Beyond the sightseeing, which was amazing, Alberto is also a great photographer and took care to get many beautiful shots of us at the sites we visited. And last, but of course not least, is his car! My son is crazy about cars and the chance to spend a couple of hours in this piece of history that Alberto has restored was a dream come true. Alberto is a great driver and there really is nothing like the freedom and pleasure of being driven around Rome by someone who knows the city so well. Alberto is a truly wonderful person and guide. If we were here longer, I would do it again!

We have just returned from your Rome: San Clemente Underground and Basilica Guided Tour. We had a wonderful time. What an amazing layer cake site. Gina is a fabulous guide, we learned so much! She has a wonderful way of explaining which takes complex concepts and history and makes them thoroughly understandable and hugely enjoyable. We loved her. Many thanks

A fantastic private tour with Fulvia. Each of the four churches had something to add to our appreciation of Rome. Our tour guide was eager to explain architecture, art, and history. I highly recommend this tour... a half-day was barely enough to scratch the surface!

Luisa is a superb guide. Her vast knowledge, passion, and love of the they area is amazing! She had many insights and was a pleasant conversationalist between stops on the tour. You get to see all the famous attractions as well as some hidden gems! Great value!!

Helpful! Especially with the amazing SIM card deals in Italy. This made it possible to be online and stream the audio tour from anywhere!
