What people are saying about San Pedro de Atacama
The Uyuni Salt Flats are definitely a must see when you are in the region. During this 3 day trip you will have 10 stops during the first 2 days before you get to Uyuni. For me, some of these stops were even more beautiful than Uyuni itself. Some advice: - You will spend a lot during daytime on a height 3.500 - 4.300m. Some people got sick (headache) especially during the first day. I took pills which I bought in San Pedro de Atacama and did not have any problems. You will need a prescription to get these. I just went to the "hospital" (it is near the post office) and they wrote me the prescription. If you really want to be sure then better get them at home. - You will have to exchange money in Chile. There is no option at the border! The entrance to Uyuni and the national reserves during the first 2 days is 150 Boliv. P. - During the first 2 days you only have the chance to buy stuff (e.g. water, cookies) during lunch time. So, better bring 1.5l with you.
We very much enjoyed our tour with Desert Adventures! The places we visited were beautiful, and as advertised in the tour. The tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable, bilinguale english/spanish, and gave us enough time for pictures. The driver was good, no criticisms there. The tour also gave us a bag of snacks which was nice. We left a bit late, but we came back to San Pedro a bit later so all good. I definitely recommend!
Be aware that this expedition (not tour!) is very interesting but physically extremely challenging. We had 5 persons in 4W Jeep. It was very tight and rear row on the car didn’t have enough space for 2 persons. We had strong mountains sickness first 2 days . It was challenging . Roads are rough (not paved). We slept in modest hostels with very basic amenities and it was very cold at night! Be prepared and dress well!
The tour covered so many beautiful sites that were breathtaking. Daniel our guide was the best guide I have ever encountered. He combined acting with knowledge. What a joy! The various altitude lagoons and flamingos at the salt flats were the highlights. Was happy for a tour instead of driving myself since they covered many miles and some were at 14,000 feet.
The overall experience of this trip was excellent. Our driver/guide Eli was very friendly and more than happy to take incredible pictures of the group. His English was good enough, so there were no communication problems. The itinerary was great, but demanding. You see so much in just a short amount of time. It’s definitely a must do tour when in Bolivia.
