Drive along mountain roads and through forests, admiring gorgeous and breath-taking lakes, hills and villas, before setting off on a trail walk. Picture postcard scenery at its finest, with some anthropological history thrown in too.
What to Expect
Leaving from San Martin de los Andes, this walk like Catritre and Chapelco, is a classic. The relatively short 18km walk captures the beauty of Lanín National Park. You'll start bordering the Chivay Lácar lake, seeing the Volcano Cerro Colorado and the Savannah, then pass by the famous hut where a well known TV programme "Alen of Moonlight" was filmed. Then you'll reach The Curruhuinca Community, inhabited by "Mapuches", an original community which have languished for a long long time.
As you move forward, you'll go along the mountain roads and great varieties of forests, among which you'll find, Robles, Coihues, Ñires and landscapes of bathed by lichen organisms or beards of Devil, which give each tree a magical aspect. You'll connect with the Chivay Lácar lake, but this time with a much broader and different view. In fact, you'll stop at an overlook point that allows an aerial view of the entire villa, lake, mountains and more.
Quila Quina Villa, is a small valley that seems to be stolen from the lake and in front of the mountain range that surrounds it completely. The villa has different settlements that belong to the Curruhinca. You'll also see beautiful private houses, most of them well-known as part of the group Perez-Companc, in addition to a tearoom, a spring to the sailing tours of the lake and great beach areas. Here you can simply enjoy a natural framework in front of the impressive granite hill range.
Then it's off to the waterfall of the Arroyo Grande guided by people from the community known as "Guides Cowboys" from national parks. There will also be a short hike along the trail where the waterfall is not to be missed. Latterly, treat yourself to a nice hot chocolate or coffee in the tearoom of the pier of the villa, surrounded by picture postcard scenery.
