What people are saying about San Lorenzo de El Escorial
Overall rating
Excellent. Pick up time at our hotel in Madrid was on time. Joan was our private driver. He was informative, very friendly, courteous. The vehicle a Mercedes Benz, was very comfortable clean for 6 family and friends. The drive to El Escorial went smoothly, beautiful and green landscape. He drove us to The Valley of the Fallen first and gave us plenty of time to see the Basilica and the views from the mountain. Then he drove us to the Monastery of San Lorenzo which was impressive and quite large to see everything. We had plenty of time to see what we could including the pantheon He then drove us around El Escorial to see the main square and the town. He dropped us off for lunch at a local restaurant and we had plenty of time before heading back to Madrid. The restaurant was not the best. We’ve had better cuchinillo in Escorial a few years ago and Botin in Madrid. However the restaurant staff were friendly and good service. Overall we enjoyed the tour. Thank you Joan. 09/21/24
Excellent I would say. Especially Segovia was a surprise and I liked it very much. It's a shame that in these Tours there is not also an Italian guide; however in general the guide was very kind and tried to answer questions in Italian and we always understood each other very well. If we cannot understand everything, we are still very proud because, wherever you go, there is a lot of Italy in the world: in architecture, in art, in engineering works, and in many other things excellent Italian names resonate.
Although the day before we had already toured the entire city independently, visiting most of the most important sites, the preparation and the detailed and in-depth explanations of our guide Vanessa, showed us and pointed out details that we did not know and would not have noticed on our own. Vanessa was very thorough, competent and very nice
This was a wonderful tour for those interested in the art, architecture, royalty, religion, and history of 16th century Spain. the Valley of the Fallen was impressive but unnerving due to its fascist roots.
Everything was excellent. Maybe a few more minutes for the bookshop
