In addition to the ibis and flamingoes, Caroni is home to 180-plus bird species, including herons, kingfishers and the colorful masked cardinal, depicted on T&T's $50 note, as well as spectacled caiman, Cook's tree boas, crab-eating raccoons and silky anteaters.

Drive along the scenic North Coast Road for epic views of dense rainforests, tree-covered mountains, and the bright blue waters of the sea. From the river, enjoy up-close views of flourishing vegetation and rainforest plants. Swim in the large pools around the falls and enjoy yourself before eating a picnic lunch. On the return trip, stop in Blanchisseuse to bathe in the Marianne River's natural lagoon.
