Full description
Departing from the nearby meeting point, visit the University of Costa Rica campus, home to some of the largest patches of forest in San Jose. Guided by young biologists, discover the nature hiding in the middle of Costa Rica's largest city. Experience wildlife you wouldn't have imagined existed minutes away from downtown.   On the first stop, you’ll look for resident and migratory birds, lots of incredible insects and amazing flowers. Then, see the largest indigenous stone sphere in San Jose, thought to derive from the extinct Diquis culture. Lastly, visit the main campus to seek out the friendly sloths climbing freely. The goal of this tour is to change the way tourism is done in Costa Rica, while supporting young scientists, researchers, and local entrepreneurs.

A must! We saw flora, fauna, insects, birds, and best of all: two different species of sloths, including a mother/baby pair! Our guide, Jen, went above and beyond, even when we'd already seen what we came for, and found us another sloth. And even if we hadn't, everything we learned about Costa Rica's extraordinary ecosystem would well have been worth it!

Glady's was an amazing guide! We had a lovely afternoon walk through the University Campus. She pointed out the abundant life surrounding us from the busy carpenter ants, 3 types of bees, to dozens of colorful birds. We literally stopped to smell the flowers and the leaves and even tasted a few. The highlight was spending a great deal of time watching the sloths overhead. We spotted a mom and her baby, a small male and a large male. The entire afternoon was delightful and it was wonderful to support local students studying in Costa Rica. Highly recommend if you need a 1/2 day excursion.

Our guide, Gladys, was amazing, showing us intricate details of the flora and fauna hiding all around us. Her knowledge of the birds, plants and animals of Costa Rica and her genuine love of the environment made the trip worth the time and money. I urge all those who love the natural world to join this outing, it was very enjoyable.
