Full description
Departing from the nearby meeting point, visit the University of Costa Rica campus, home to some of the largest patches of forest in San Jose. Guided by young biologists, discover the nature hiding in the middle of Costa Rica's largest city. Experience wildlife you wouldn't have imagined existed minutes away from downtown.   On the first stop, you’ll look for resident and migratory birds, lots of incredible insects and amazing flowers. Then, see the largest indigenous stone sphere in San Jose, thought to derive from the extinct Diquis culture. Lastly, visit the main campus to seek out the friendly sloths climbing freely. On weekdays, you can also visit the scientific research butterfly garden with more than 25 different species and get to know the people working there. The goal of this tour is to change the way tourism is done in Costa Rica, while supporting young scientists, researchers, and local entrepreneurs.

Great experience with a lot of insights and personalized education about the animal life in Costa Rica with a biologist. Cello was super knowledgeable and friendly as we walked the grounds spotting local wildlife right in San Jose. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend to anyone looking for something interesting and educational right in San Jose.

We had a fantastic time with Marcelo. Not only did we see all the animals expected (birds, sloths, even leafcutter ants), but Marcelo went out of his way to provide interesting explanations and equipment to make sure we got the most out of our experience (binoculars ans telescope). We were delighted with our experience and definitely recommend it as one of the best things to do in San Jose!

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. My guide, Charly the botanist was very knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy answering all questions. He carried a small telescope for good viewing which makes a huge difference when looking at something high in a tree. We saw three sloths, many types of birds, leaf cutter ants, a beautiful large spider and her tiny mate and lots of plants. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone.
