Full description

Discover some of San Francisco's best wines on this half-day outing. Visit 2 wineries and 3 to 5 tastings. Enjoy scenic views from your comfortable coach.

Start your day in the afternoon, as you head north to the Golden Gate Bridge. Enjoy a scenic drive over the Golden Gate Bridge and marvel at the San Francisco skyline in the distance.

Next, drive through the beautiful town of Sausalito, a seaside Mediterranean-like village harbored across the San Francisco Bay and famous for its sweeping views. As the vine-covered hillsides come into view, you will visit 2 favorite wineries of the region for wine tastings and an exclusive estate tour.

Experience the inner workings of the wineries and their family history in Napa and Sonoma Valley as an expert wine host walks you through the fermentation process, barrel-aging, bottling, and, of course, tastings of some award-winning varietals. At each winery, enjoy up to 3-5 tastings of their signature blends. Your day concludes with a scenic drive back over the Golden Gate Bridge and into San Francisco as the sun slowly starts to set into the Pacific Ocean.

The ride was great, the bus was comfortable, and our driver, George was very knowledgeable about the area, the history of the wine industry in CA, and each of the wineries. I would have rated it excellent but the quality of wines and number of samples at Sutter Home and Ru Vango did not meet my expectations. Madonna was fantastic, and George pointed out places to eat in Sonoma. I had a great lunch. our group was small. so we were able to get to know each other a bit. I had a great day.

I was missing explanations about wine production in general, i.e. harvesting, pressing, storage, bottling etc. In both wineries we only say the main building with tasting and souvenir shop In the first winery "Madonna" we talked moodily about wine tasting for about 30 minutes, then it went into the typical sales and gift shop. After another 30 minutes went back to the bus and to the second winery. There we were greeted outside, briefly informed about the winery and the snacks on offer. The only offer: a tapas plate-Italian snacks, cheese, salami, olives and nuts-for $30!-There wasn't anything else! However the garden was pretty, the wine tastings were served at the seat. This winery also had the typical souvenir shop and our stay there was also limited to one hour. Conclusion: Can you do it, the bus ride over Golden Gate and through Sausalito to Napa Valley was nice. The wine tastings and visits to the estate were rather sparse in terms of time and information.

A nice relaxing afternoon seeing parts of San Fransisco and the surrounding areas that you would not normally see if you fly in to the city. The wineries were friendly and generous with tastings. The best thing about the tour was our tour guide who was a real character and his commentary along the way and knowledge was superb.
