Explore the infamous Alcatraz prison which for 150 years struck fear into the hearts of Americans. At the height of Prohibition during the 1920's Alcatraz was the end of the line for the country’s worst criminals: Al ’Scarface’ Capone, the kidnapper George ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly, Harlem gangster and poet ‘Bumpy’ Johnson, and Morton Sobell, who was found guilty of espionage along with Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. Listen to the award-winning audio guide which paints a picture of daily life in the prison. After your Alcatraz tour, take the ferry back to the docks and meet your guide for a walking tour of Chinatown. Start your tour near the Dragon’s gate, and learn about the neighborhood’s history as a seedy port district. Hear stories of the drunken sailors who would visit the neighborhood's opium dens and brothels. Discover how the neighborhood has transformed over the decades. See neighborhood landmarks including Waverly Place, Portsmouth Square, and St. Mary’s Cathedral. Stop into a traditional apothecary. Try some tasty treats at some of the city’s best bakeries. Great way to spend a day in San Francisco and cover a whole lot.

This tour is a great way to see three iconic San Francisco landmarks in a day without feeling to hurried. Our guide. Eddie was great, particularly for the walk through Chinatown which is clearly dear to his heart. On this matter he was very knowledgeable, and we went back to sample his food recommendation which were very tasty. Doing Alcatraz and cable car trip in our own time was a good way of doing it. Only minor complaint was the limited directions on how to find the lower terminus of the California Street cable car. That could of been made clearer.

We had a hard time finding the meeting location for the China Town tour. I had a photo of the map and googled the address, but we had to find transportation and that’s where the issue was. Trying to find the bus and the streetcar when you’ve never been to the city was overwhelming.
