Discover the charms of 2 of the 4 major cities of Guatemala, all in one day. Get to know Iximché (the first capital of Guatemala) and Antigua Guatemala. Today's trip combines Spanish Colonial and Mayan influence, and you'll visit sites that will immerse you in the area’s enthralling history. Learn from watching the indigenous people that still visit Iximché, and if we are very lucky, we will witness a real Mayan ceremony that takes place in Iximché. We will begin the day with a transfer from your hotel in Guatemala City or Antigua Guatemala, to the archaeological site of Iximché. Upon arrival we will take a guided visit to Iximché: the first capital of Guatemala. We will then transfer to the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala, where we will enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the city. Whilst here we will visit some of the most important and significant attractions of the city, including Antigua’s most beautiful churches, monasteries and convents. After a day of sightseeing and new experiences, you will be returned to your hotel for a much needed rest!

Antigua Guatemala, with its origins dating back to 1543, invites you to discover its rich history and cultural treasures on our 'Walk Antigua Like a Local' tour. As you stroll along the cobblestone streets, you'll visit key landmarks, including: Main Square: The heart of Antigua, this historic park is surrounded by important buildings, such as the Municipal building, Palace, and the Cathedral. It's a hub of activity, day and night, with vendors, people-watching opportunities, and cozy cafes. San Francisco & Hno. Pedro Museum: A highlight of the tour, you'll explore the beautifully restored San Francisco Church and discover the tomb of Pedro de San José de Betancur, Guatemala's only Saint. Santo Domingo Restoration: Dive into the history of the Santo Domingo Convent and learn about its transformation into Hotel Museo Spa Casa Santo Domingo. La Merced Church Frontage: Admire the Baroque-style architecture of La Iglesia de la Merced, known for its distinctive low bell towers designed to withstand Guatemala's frequent tremors. Santa Catarina Arch street: Marvel at the iconic Santa Catalina Arch, a historic landmark that once connected a convent to a school, offering stunning views of the Volcán de Agua on clear days. Chocolate Museum: Explore the history of cacao and the chocolate-making process at the Chocolate Museum. Savor local coffee and hot chocolate. Jade Museum: Discover the ancient significance of jade in China and Mesoamerica, and learn about its various uses. You'll have the opportunity to explore the interiors of some buildings and capture memorable photos of your journey. Please note that lunch is not included, but you'll have the chance to try local coffee and hot chocolate at some of our favorite coffee shops along the way. Departure from Guatemala City, 1:30 hour of mobilization to Hobbitenango, we will go up in a 4x4 vehicle and our tour guide will always accompany us to know the place and take pictures, then we will continue the tour in the town of Antigua Guatemala, your tour guide will show you the most important streets and monuments: La Merced Church, the Arch of Santa Catarina, The Central Park, San Francisco Church. We will also visit the Jade Museum, the handicrafts market, the Chocomuseum. Your tour guide can suggest a good place for lunch. Places to visit: - Hobbitenango and Antigua Guatemala.

The trip from Guatemala City to Antigua Guatemala takes approximately one hour. The tour will begin at the Hotel and Museum Casa Santo Domingo, then we will visit La Merced church, the street of Santa Catalina Arch, Plaza Mayor, San José Church, and San Francisco Church. The guide will suggest a good place to enjoy a delicious typical lunch. In the afternoon, we will continue visit the handicraft market, Choco Museum, The Zacapa Rum House and Jade Museum. The tour ends with a return to Guatemala City.
