San Cristobal: Chiflon Waterfalls & Montebello Day Tour

2. San Cristobal: Chiflon Waterfalls & Montebello Day Tour

Start this full-day adventure into the wilderness of Chiapas with a morning pick-up from your hotel in San Cristobal. Drive to the impressive El Chiflon Waterfalls near the colonial city of Comitan, and hike an approximate 1-mile (1.5 kilometers) to the top of the multi-staged cascades, surrounded by mountains and rainforest. Known for creating the impression of a pair of “angel’s wings” that appear to emerge from the mountain, the falls also offer striking turquoise waters that you can take a dip in at the end of your walk. Continue to Montebello Lakes, a collection of 52 crystal clear lakes surrounded by pine forest. Here, you can dive into the refreshing blue waters, and even cross in a cayuco (a small, rustic wooden raft) to see beautiful orchids. In total, you will visit about 5 to 7 of the main lakes to experience the contrasting colors, which can vary from dark green, to bright emerald, turquoise, and even purple or red, depending on the mineral content. You will then be transferred back to San Cristobal for a drop off at your hotel, or the Zocalo (Plaza 31 de Marzo) if you prefer.

What people are saying about San Cristóbal de las Casas

Carlos was a fantastic guide, and added even more value to a just great tour. For example, we asked him to visit the highest part of the falls, which normally you don't have time to visit, and he made sure that it was possible for us, even if this way he had to follow us at a great pace up to the mountain. The lake is also a worth seeing. At the end of the day, this tour was a very good use of money and time of the holiday.

Super excursion, admittedly the guide only speaks Spanish but honestly in all the excursions that we have been able to do in Mexico even the guides supposed to speak English did not speak really English so good. The view from the watchtowers is included! Everything was really top notch and well organized I recommend 100%.

We are a bit late waiting for another group, but the activity itself is spectacular. Good explanations and very attentive to please the group.

Highly recommended experience, very friendly driver and very nice visits. Recommend bringing water, hat and sunscreen.

Great activity. Amazing Canyon and great vibe from the professionals. Very nice!
