Live tour guide

  • Follow the traces of the Trapp Family
  • Enter the facinating underground wolrd of the Salt Mines in Berchtesgaden
  • See the film locations of the famous cult movie Sound of Music
Full description
Start with the salt mines and take a breathtaking ride from the city of Salzburg into the Bavarian Alps along the Kings Lake-Ache passing the Obersalzberg, where the second headquarters of the Third Reich used to be.  Afterwards, the tour continues to its highlight – the 490 year old salt mines at Berchtesgaden. Slip into traditional miners’ clothes and take the miners’ train deep into the mountain. Experience the fascinating underground world of the salt-miners and discover the charm of the magnificently illuminated subterranean landscape. Take the slides down to the salt lake which you will be crossing by boat. After this 2-hour unique tour you will have the opportunity to explore the little picturesque town of Berchtesgaden tasting some Bavarian specialties.  After a short break go to the Sound of Music Tour - a wonderful ride with amazing views! Tour the picturesque World Heritage City of Salzburg as well as the beautiful landscapes where the opening scenes of the movie The Sound of Music were filmed. The enormous success of The Sound of Music Broadway Musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein premiering in 1959 caused film director Robert Wise and 250 crew members to turn Salzburg and its surroundings into the Sound of Music film location in 1964.   Right after release, the film became a tremendous success, awarded with 5 Oscars, becoming the highest grossing movie ever and reaching cult status over the years. Both the musical and film are based on the "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" written by Maria von Trapp in 1949.  Do follow the traces of the Trapp family and take a tour through Salzburg and its surroundings. Visit all of the original film sets and just imagine being Julie Andrews, the main character in the film, playing Maria von Trapp. Learn about the historical and architectural landmarks of Salzburg as well as the Lake District while enjoying the highlights of the movie. Relax and listen to the Original Sound of Music soundtrack and of course feel free to sing Edelweis and much more.

The two activities in themselves were good although the sound of music tour was a lot on the bus and the farthest distance was still too commercially tinted to the local village. This stop out and more time at the other locations would have been better. The afternoon activity in the salt mine was fantastic. Both activities with very good guide. A minus point: if you sell it as a day package then you also have to make it a day. We were dropped in the bus depot at 13 o'clock after part 1 and just had to wait an hour for the start of part 2. That is not the intention of a day trip of course.

    Music to my ears

Loved the tour , we had a chirpy, bustling with life guide April , who made all the difference to what could have been just another sight seeing tour with banal explanations... thank you April ... Also must mention Wolfgang who took us on the trip to the salt mines , was at pains to point out all the interesting sights on our route and also had a very interesting discussion on German politics and culture of the people in the Bavarian area , thank you

    Fabulous landscapes !!!

Our guide was amazing! He made us laugh a lot and he knew the movie very well and all his little anecdotes! The bus brings us to see fabulous places with breathtaking scenery! The salt mines are impressive. Small train trips, tobogganing and the view of the underground lake are well worth the trip !!!
