Embark on a half-day scenic tour through the Salzkammergut to Hallstatt. See the town of Hallstatt on a guided tour and explore at your own pace after. Admire the Mullbach waterfall and the Bone House.

Start the trip from Salzburg with a drive through the famous Salzkammergut en route to Hallstatt, known as the Pearl of the Salzkammergut. The route will take you through a number of charming villages, as you listen to an introduction to Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut. If you wish to do the Hallstatt Skywalk, please make your own arrangements and also considering an hour timewise from your 2.5 hours stay in Hallstatt.   On arrival in Hallstatt, enjoy 2.5 hours of free time to take in the sights. Take a leisurely walk along the lake and marvel at how the houses above you seem to cling onto the mountainside. Pass by the Mullbach waterfall and visit the local museum. A must-see attraction is the Bone House behind the Catholic church, which will give you an interesting view into local family life (admission not included). You’ll then begin the return journey via Abtenau and Russbach to Gosau, where you’ll see the Gosau Lake and admire the views of the Dachtsein mountains.

Know before you go

  • In Hallstatt you will have some time on your own (2.5 hours)
  • Please note that there will be NO time visiting the salt mine in Hallstatt, as the bus will leave earlier
  • If you wish to do the Skywalk, please make your own arrangements and allow 1 hour for this activity
  •  The Bone House has seasonal opening hours
  • For disabled guests/ wheelchair users: except for the Salt Mines Tour and the Eagle's Nest Tour, all tours are wheelchair accessible. Your wheelchair must be foldable, and you will need to be able to get in and out of the coach or minivan by yourself (1-3 steps)

Perfect trip for anyone who would like to have a quick gateway to Hallstatt for half a day ..we went in the morning one will recommend taking the 8:00 am bus as it means you will have to deal with less tourist . Once you reach you get 2.5 hours to yourself to do what you like ..perfect to walk around the town. Please note this tour doesn’t include salt mines or any other attraction , the main item for this trip is to and fro from Hallstatt, of course the guide will mention about the history of the region .

Hallstatt was beautiful! Our tour guide kept us entertained and informed with history during the bus ride. You get €1 off the skywalk ticket (reg. €22 per person) if you purchase with the tour guide. My partner and I skipped out on the skywalk and do not regret it. We opted for a swan paddle boat onto the lake instead which was €15 total for an hour and can hold four people. You get to see the whole town from the lake and paddle next to actual swans. The price of the tour really seems to have been more for transportation which is pricey in comparison to the train. If we come back in the future, we will probably look into just taking a train to and from so that we are not rushed and have more time to explore the town.

Take the 8 am tour as it does get very busy around 11 am, and then you have the afternoon to do something else. We had 2.5 hours to see the town and catacomb and have a coffee which was sufficient. Some did the skywalk which takes an hour at €21 additional cost. Hallstatt is vet small bit beautiful. We enjoyed it.
