From Salzburg: Half-Day Tour to Hallstatt

We wanted to travel to Hallstatt but had limited time, and having researched the public transport options, determined that the best way was to book a tour. It was a very comfortable journey taking us through some beautiful countryside and for our Aussie teenagers who have not seen much snow, to pass by the mountains was a great experience for them. Our guide was pleasant. We would highly recommend taking the fernicular up the mountain as there are some magnificent views over the lake (and lots of fresh snow in mid-December). However, make sure you leave enough time to explore the town as the half day tour doesn't give you much spare time once you've been up the mountain and had a bite to eat.

It’s quite a well organised tour but as a person who likes to soak the vibe of a place in - 2.5 hours is a little too less for Hallstatt which deserves more. Only if this tour is increased by 1 hour, people won’t rush from one stop to another while worrying about missing the bus (as other routes of going back are complicated). I’d also say that a very small meal — perhaps just a sandwich or a croissant when the trip begins would be v helpful as places in Salzburg are shut that early and you don’t wanna waste time in Hallstatt queueing up to pick up coffee/food. Our driver and guide were fantastic though I’d urge the guide to perhaps give more historical context to the town and some more fun anecdotes. Overall, happy. But def say another hour would have been very very helpful
