Full description

Embark on a half-day scenic tour through the Salzkammergut to Hallstatt. See the town of Hallstatt on a guided tour and explore at your own pace after. Admire the Mullbach waterfall and the Bone House.

Start the trip from Salzburg with a drive through the famous Salzkammergut en route to Hallstatt, known as the Pearl of the Salzkammergut. The route will take you through a number of charming villages, as you listen to an introduction to Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut. If you wish to do the Hallstatt Skywalk, the guide will collect the money for the ticket on the bus.  On arrival in Hallstatt, you might begin your visit with a mountain train ride up to the entrance of the world’s oldest salt mines (though the tour does not visit the mine itself), where you can admire the views down onto Hallstatt.  In Hallstatt you will have 2.5 hours to take in the sights. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lake and marvel at how the houses above you seem to cling onto the mountainside. Pass by the Mullbach waterfall and visit the local museum. A must-see attraction is the Bone House behind the Catholic church, which will give you an interesting view into local family life (admission not included). You’ll then begin the return journey via Abtenau and Russbach to Gosau, where you’ll see the Gosau Lake and admire the views of the Dachtsein mountains.

The tour left on time and the bus was very comfortable. The guide was nice but we were provided limited information maybe because she had to keep switching from English to German when the tour was supposed to be in English. That was very distracting. The scenery along the way is beautiful. Hallstatt is very pretty, as well. We chose to spend the 2.5 hours touring the city. There isn’t enough time to do much. You either go to the platform or you tour the city. Overall it was a good tour but you pretty much pay for the transportation.

Nice trip, Nice tour guide. Only one thing that I would like to remind everyone, if the Hallstatt Skywalk is queuing, you may consider not to go, because you would not have enough time for visiting the lovely Hallstatt village (which the skywalk time is also included in the 2.5hr). And also, you can buy the Salt in the supermarket actually, no need to buy it there...

The bus is very well air-conditioned and comfortable. Hallstad is wonderful and 100% worth it. We were there for two and a half hours and it seemed short. That's why you have to be punctual on the way back because our tour left a person behind after waiting for 10 minutes!
