On this half-day tour you'll relive scenes from one of the most popular movies of all time. Visit the locations used during the filming of The Sound of Music in Salzburg and its surrounding countryside. During the tour, you’ll also hear songs from the original soundtrack. Let your guide show you the architectural and historical landmarks of the city and the picturesque Lake District. See Leopoldskron Palace, a place whose exterior was used as the Trapp family home and where the children were seen boating on the lake and jumping into the water. Maria was a novice at Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest convent in German-speaking Europe, and your next stop. The St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang scenes shown at the beginning of the movie were actually filmed at Lake Fuschl, on the way to St. Gilgen, which you'll also see today. The wedding scene was filmed at Mondsee Cathedral, a buttery yellow-and-white edifice where you'll stop on the tour. Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the baron in front of the stairs of the main altar. Your visit to Salzburg Fortress starts with either a beautiful 20-30 minute walk or a quick and comfortable ride on Austria's oldest funicular (depending on tour option selected). 3. Salzburg: The Magic Flute at Marionette Theater Ticket

Probably Mozart's best-known opera, staged here for young and old, starts with a look behind the scenes. You’ll see talented puppeteers performing this incredible opera, which is full of singing, dancing, and lots of surprises. The Magic Flute is in German, with explanations in English, Spanish, French and Chinese projected on the wall near the stage. The duration is 2 hours 10 minutes with an intermission between. A one-hour short version is also performed on certain afternoons. The venue operates as an opera house in miniature, hosting regular performances of operas, musicals, plays and fairytales, in its 350-seat baroque-style auditorium. The Salzburg Marionette Theatre employs 12 puppeteers, trained in a wide variety of trades and professions. Qualities common to all of them are musicality, manual skill, and the ability to empathise with the various characters in order to bring alive the marionettes on the stage. The Salzburg Marionette Theatre has evolved its own technique, which is used as a model by many marionette theatres worldwide and belongs to the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO since 2016.
