Phoenix: Self-Guided Kayaking Trip to Foxtail

1. Phoenix: Self-Guided Kayaking Trip to Foxtail

There is no better way to escape the summer heat than to go kayaking on the Lower Salt River. As you cruise below cliffs and past beautiful desert scenery, look out for native wildlife. The sit-on-top kayaks are very stable and easy to maneuver; after a 15-minute orientation, you'll be ready to go.  While this is primarily a scenic float there are sections of swift water and kayakers often tip out- so be prepared to get wet. At the end of the route, staff will be waiting to gather the kayaks as you board an air-conditioned van to return to the ranch.

I traveled to AZ alone. I was hoping to do more hiking but unfortunately got really bad allergies. This kayaking trip was an amazing alternative. All the employees were super nice and helpful. The gear provided was in good condition. It was far away and secluded which is stated on the website so access there is a bit difficult especially when going solo and relying on rideshare apps for transportation. But the views and wildlife we saw were amazing!

Kayaking at the Saguaro Lake Ranch in the Salt River was excellent! This fee includes a thorough briefing, even for non-kayakers, initial help starting, good directions and a return ride to the start. The Salt River is tame but adds a bit of push in spots that require attention to detail and amazing beauty with the surrounding landscape, wildlife and beautiful horses. A must do for you and your friends.

Super fun! GORGEOUS scenery! WILD HORSES!! I don’t think it was clear upon reservation that this was NOT guided. Also instructor(before we got in water) told us it was ok to drink the river water in spite of parasites. NOT SMART ADVICE and especially since we saw 60 wild horses along the route, in or near water who could be urinating and defecating! Otherwise- great trip!

This kayaking activity was amazing. Beautiful scenery and easy navigation. Nothing too hard to kayak through, even the more "challenging" route. We went in mid April so the waters were high and chilly, 55 degrees, but with air temps in the upper 90s, we liked that the water was chilly.

David was exceptional! Answered all of our questions. Gave us history of the area. Highly recommend!
