Overview
Discover the Valley of Kings and its royal tombs hidden in the desert sands, the well-preserved Karnak Temple, the temple of the legendary Queen Hatshepsut, and the Colossi of Memnon. Enjoy a guided tour of these ancient sites and more.
What to Expect
At the beginning of this 14-hour excursion you’ll be picked up at the exit door of your cruise ship. You’ll soon be on your way to Luxor, following along the Nile River and passing by various upper Egyptian towns and villages.

Stop en route for a look at the 3,400-year-old Colossi of Memnon, the gigantic statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that once stood guard in front of his memorial temple complex that was even larger than the Temple of Karnak. The memorial temple itself is no longer standing.

Next on your itinerary is the Valley of the Kings, where ancient Egyptians buried their kings and nobles for a period of 500 years. It was at this site that mummies of some of the most famous and important persons of the Pharaonic time were found.

You can descend into the tombs of great Egyptian rulers and discover the well-preserved and colorful paintings and hieroglyphs on the walls.

Another area highlight is the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, one of the most fascinating rulers of ancient Egypt. This female pharaoh proved her ability to successfully reign over an empire and created for herself an extraordinary mortuary temple with colonnaded terraces, a hypostyle hall, and numerous statues, paintings, and reliefs.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant you’ll visit the Temple of Karnak, that after thousands of years is still in amazingly good condition. With a bit of imagination, you’ll find yourself back in time at this impressive monument.

You’ll have plenty of time to explore and get an idea of how the immense pylon was built, and too admire the hieroglyphs and paintings. See the holy lake and take in the various chapels, temples, and statues.

If you like, you can approach the holy scarab close to the lake and walk around it clockwise 3 times. According to the legend, offspring will soon follow!

In the evening you’ll return to your cruise ship in the port at Safaga.
