Get picked up by your driver guide from your hotel in Kigali at 5:30 AM and depart for Akagera National Park located along the eastern border of Rwanda, hugging the border with Tanzania.  Arrive for a morning game drive, searching for the big five, rhinos, lions, buffalo, leopard, and elephant in the expansive Park. Typically hilly countryside gives way to the savannas of the Great Rift Valley. Dominated by lakes, swamps, and marshland, the area boasts a huge compliment of nature and wildlife that cannot be found elsewhere in the country.   The varied terrain shelters wildlife including zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions, and hundreds of bird species, such as the rare shoebill stork. In the southern part of the park, vast Lake Ihema is home to hippos and crocodiles. Arrive at the picnic site for your lunch then later go on your afternoon exploration with a game drive by visiting the giraffe valley. Depart the park in the late afternoon through the northern gate and travel back to Kigali arriving early in the evening.

Trek up the mountains of the Mghahinga National Park in Uganda and get the opportunity to see the magnificent mountain gorillas in their natural habitat on a 1-day guided tour from Kigali. Get picked up at 3:00 AM from your hotel in Kigali and travel northwest to Mghahinga National Park for approximately 3 hours. Enjoy breakfast served ala-carte style with a variety of fresh pieces of bread, pastries, and hot and cold selections at a hotel close to the park.   Make a brief stop at the border to clear with customs and then continue to the National Park headquarters to meet your guides for the day. Embark on a once in a lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas. The trekking may be fairly strenuous; up to 3 hours or longer at a relatively high altitude.  Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a magical experience. These massive primates are extremely rare, with less than 1000 living today. Once you spot the gorillas you are allowed to spend an hour watching them. You have an opportunity to get within meters of the families. This is perhaps one of the most breath-taking experiences on earth. Return and stop for lunch in town and later proceed to Kigali. If leaving Kigali, you will arrive in time to transfer to the airport for your onward flight, or if time allows, go on a last-minute shopping before departure.

Begin your journey to meet Rwanda's mountain gorillas bright and early with a hotel pickup from Kigali where you will be greeted by your guide who will take care of you throughout the day.  Head straight to the Volcanoes National Park in Musanze Province — habitat to endangered mountain gorillas — whereupon arrival your guide will take you on a hiking tour to look for the gentle creatures. Sit back and relax on your 2-hour drive to the park, and either grab a few more hours of shut-eye or admire the picturesque scenery. Once at the park, tuck into breakfast before heading to the park's headquarters at Kinigi for a briefing by the park warden. Then, start your trek through the bamboo covered slopes at 8:30 AM with your expert guide and keep an eye out for the endangered gorillas on your way. Depending on where the gorillas are located, your trek could last anywhere between 1-8 hours. Once with the gorillas, spend time getting close to them, feeding them, and meeting the entire gorilla family, including babies. The Volcanoes National Park is home to twelve gorilla families, all of which are fully habituated. The groups, or troops, consist of at least one silverback along with several females and youngsters. Stop for a delicious lunch to gather your energy, and feel re-energized to keep walking. Best of all, choose from either a small-group or private guided experience to make your trip special.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda In the evening, get picked up and taken to your hotel. Have dinner at around 7:00 PM in the hotel restaurant. Day 2: Explore Kigali - Visit Genocide Memorial - Bwindi National Park Start your day with breakfast served buffet-style at the hotel beginning at 8:00 AM. Dig into a variety of fresh breads, pastries, and hot and cold dishes. Leave your hotel at around 9:00 AM for a morning of discovery in the Rwandan capital of Kigali. Learn about the city's past and present.  Visit the Genocide Memorial, which remembers the mass slaughter of a million Tutsi, Twa, and moderate Hutu in 1994. At around noon, take an hour-long break for lunch at a local restaurant. Then, after lunch, set off for Bwindi National Park on a 3-hour journey. You will stop briefly at the border to Uganda to clear with customs and then continue your trip. Arrive at the lodge and have time to settle in before dinner. Freshen up in your room with a private bathroom. Make use of the amenities including a restaurant and bar. Have dinner at around 7:00 PM in the lodge's restaurant. Depending on the lodge that is available, you will likely be just minutes away from the main gate of Bwindi National Park.  Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trek Have a buffet-style breakfast from 6:00 AM. Then, at 7:30 AM, take a drive of about 30 minutes to the National Park headquarters to meet your guides for the day.  After completing the park formalities, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas. Learn how the park is home to over a third of the remaining 1,000 Mountain Gorillas in the world. Walk for two to four hours through thick bush and over steep, rugged terrain at elevations ranging from 7,000 to 9,000 feet. Once you spot the gorillas, spend up to an hour watching these incredible creatures from close by. Depending on the length of our trek, you will return to the lodge by about 1:00 PM and have lunch at 1:30 PM. At 2:00 PM, check out of the lodge and drive for 4 hours back to your hotel in Kigali, arriving in time for some last-minute shopping and a transfer to the airport or hotel in Kigali.

Spend 5 days immersed in Rwanda's wilderness. With experienced guides, see its forests, lakes, and canopies, and take part in a thrilling adventure: chimpanzee and gorilla tracking, which will allow you to come face-to-face with the country's most magnificent animals. Day 1 – Kigali to Nyungwe National Park   Your guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Nyungwe Forest, one of the largest in East and Central Africa. This forest contains 13 species of primates and over 310 recorded bird species, making it a great bird-watching destination. Have dinner and overnight at the lodge (Emeraude Kivu Resort).   Day 2 – Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest   After a very early morning breakfast (4:30 AM), head to the chimpanzee trekking trail for an experience you’ll never forget. Hike through the forest’s secret paths with a professional tracker to look for the population of chimpanzees and to observe them in their natural habitats.   In the afternoon, go for a 1.5-hour canopy walk, which takes place above a deep gorge cutting across a massive forest. Explore the beautiful foliage and animal habitats, and keep your eyes peeled for blue monkeys and unique birds that dwell in the upper levels of the forest canopy.   Day 3 – Nyungwe to Volcanoes National Park   After an early morning breakfast at the lodge, visit Lake Kivu and enjoy the morning breeze at its shores. Spend an hour there before getting back on the road to head to Volcanoes National Park (with lunch en route). In late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the park and head to your lodge to relax, have dinner, and stay overnight (at La Locanda).   Day 4 – Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park   After breakfast, drive 30 minutes into the park to the Office Rwandais du Tourisme et des Parcs Nationaux. There, your guide will divide you into groups based on interest and fitness. From here, take an exciting journey into the forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes, and bamboos to reach the gorillas’ location. Your guide will point out signs of previous gorilla activity, including dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots. Once the gorillas have been located, spend a maximum of 1 hour with them. Coming face-to-face with a mountain gorilla is a humbling and emotional experience.   Day 5 – Twin Lakes, Transfer to Kigali   After breakfast, visit the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. These magnificent lakes (and the swamp, Rugezi), are excellent photogenic, serene, and scenic places for bird watching activity.   Later on, your guide will transfer you back to Kigali. Depending on your departure flight, you can visit the Genocide Memorial and Education Center, which opened in 2004. Your guide will then take you to the airport for your flight home.

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera National Park Your guide will pick you up from your accommodations in Kigali and transfer you to Akagera National Park. Enjoy an afternoon game drive. - Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge Day 2: Game Drive & Boat Cruise Enjoy an early morning game drive and, after lunch, a boat trip on Lake Ihema for a close encounter with the crocodiles and hippos along the river banks. You'll also have the opportunity spot some of the over 525 bird species, both migratory and savanna dwelling, that are in the area. - Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge Day 3: Akagera National Park - Kigali - Musanze Have breakfast and then enjoy a morning game drive, before returning to Kigali where you'll visit interesting spots which may include the craft market and the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site. Then depart for a two-hour drive to Musanze. You'll arrive at Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange Center in time for lunch before joining the local brew makers to learn about the process of brewing a local beer from bananas. - Overnight at The Garden Place Hotel Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park After an early morning breakfast, you'll transfer to the park headquarters together with your packed lunch. You'll begin the morning with a briefing on the code of conduct while with the gorillas. Then head out into the forest in search of the gorillas with your guide. Finding the gorillas may take from two to six hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in the jungle. Meet and stay with the gorillas for a maximum of one hour. - Overnight at The Garden Place Hotel Day 5: Lake Kivu - Nyungwe National Park After early morning breakfast at the lodge, visit Lake Kivu and enjoy the morning breeze on the shores. Spend an hour there before heading on to Nyungwe National Park with lunch en route. The drive takes about four to six hours. - Overnight at Emeraude Lake Resort Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking - Canopy Walk Start with another early morning breakfast and then you'll head out for some chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe National Park. On finding the chimpanzees, you'll have a one hour to watch and photograph them. After the chimpanzee trek, lunch will be back at the hotel. After lunch you'll head to Nyungwe National Park for a canopy walk. - Overnight at Emeraude Lake Resort Day 7: Nyungwe Forest - Butare - Kigali Have an early morning breakfast and then transfer back to Kigali where you will be dropped off at the airport to catch your flight back home or at your accommodations in Kigali.

Meet your small group early in the morning (around 5 AM) and hop in the van which will take you straight to Akagera National Park. After a short introduction and safety briefing, you'll have time to get comfortable before heading out in search of the Big 5. Explore routes less traveled in your game viewing 4x4 with your experienced guide tracking the animals you want to see. Encounter wildlife such as elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, kudu, and of course lion, leopard, and cheetah. Akagera National Park lies in eastern Rwanda, hugging the border with Tanzania. Join this riveting day tour to Akagera national park for a wildlife safari. Explore the park on a game drive and see hippos, elephants, lions and more. Learn about the wildlife from your guide and enjoy lunch afterward. The tour will depart from Kigali at 5:00 AM and arrive at around 7:30 AM. Akagera National Park is located in eastern Rwanda on the border of Tanzania. It is the only Savannah park in Rwanda and is home to elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, bushbucks, waterbucks, and black rhinos. The park is also home to numerous bird species in several habitats which include woodland, swamps, lakes, and Savannah. Take a game drive in search of these animals. The game drive can last about 4 hours depending on the animal sightings and interest. Have lunch at the Akagera game lodge before the last game drive on the way out of the park. Arrive in Kigali later in the evening. The park was once marred with lots of conflict between people and the park, but this was solved by fencing off part of the park and introducing community tours where visitors are encouraged to visit the communities and benefit accordingly.
