Full description
Discover the Madrid of the Hapsburgs on a 4-hour small-group walking tour. The Hapsburg dynasty began in Spain with the reign of Charles I, who enriched the city by building palaces and monuments. Later, Philip II declared Madrid the capital of Spain, leading to the city’s dramatic growth. Admire the Renaissance and Baroque style buildings that are perhaps some of most picturesque and representative of Madrid. Stop for a break at a traditional café in this popular area of the city, and enjoy a complimentary drink. Enjoy skip-the-line entry to the Royal Palace, which was built in the 18th century in the Italian Baroque style and is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved palaces in Europe. The palace was the official residence of the Spanish Monarchy from 1765 to 1931. To date, the most prestigious receptions of the Spanish Crown are celebrated here, including audiences, dinner parties, signings of important agreements, and the presentation of credential letters of foreign ambassadors to His Majesty the King.

Introduction to nowadays Madrid plus skip the line at the Place.

When booking the tour I was under the impression, that the walk through Habsburgs' quarter would be focussing more on historic facts, relating to the places seen on the tour. However it turned out to be a walk thought the district in the course of which the guide explained about difficulties of life in Madrid these days and pointed out plenty of shops worth visiting - as almost all of them are located right on the main street or in the immediate surroundings of Plaza Major and illustrate their merchandise in the windows, everyone on a shopping spree can find them easily without a guide. To be fair, here and there a few historic facts were mentioned, however far less than I had expected from a themed tour but the guide was motivated. Unfortunately we were provided another guide for the tour of the royal palace. Positive: It was convenient to skip the line. Down-side: the (overworked?) guide rushed through the rooms giving an obviously repeatedly well trained speech. Done after 1hour.
