Full description
Take a journey into the past and roam the decks above and under the water line like the world traveller you are. Expect to be dazzled by the stylish decorated rooms before taking time to unwind on the ship's impressive bow. The Steamship Rotterdam is the biggest oceanliner ever built in the Netherlands. As the former flagship of the Holland-America Line, this ship has sailed many of the world’s seas since 1959. The ship is now moored permanently in the Maashaven in Rotterdam, by Katendrecht. Look across the monumental bow, watch the heavy windlasses, climb up the towering bridge, check out the chart room, the radio room and visit the original captain’s cabin. Explore the glorious past and follow in the footsteps of emigrants and world travellers by taking the Rotterdam Complete Tour, the Seabreeze Deluxe Tour or the Steam and Chrome Tour.

A beautiful experience. We felt very comfortable on board the SS Rotterdam. It was a great journey through time, the Stewarts on board were always very friendly, helpful and warm. They explained a lot to us about the ship. The German audio guide was also informative. In total we spent a good 4 hours on board (of course we were also out and about in the engine room) and in the end we really enjoyed the well-deserved Amstel and the delicious Bitterballen.

It was a fantastic experience to see the beautiful ship from the inside! We arrived around 11am and disembarked around 5am! We had booked the audio tour, but experienced guides in uniform (!) were everywhere who told fantastic stories about the history of the ship! Highly recommended! My husband (74) sailed for a year on the Rotterdam as a 19-year-old and it was very special for him to be able to look around parts of the ship where he never had access at the time. Unforgettable experience, thank you!

The tour could start when the scanner and headphones were handed over. Hold the device at the scan point at 12 stations in order to be told about 1-2 minute episodes about the special location, often with memories from the crew. That was nice, easy to understand and very interesting. The scan points were sometimes not easy to find because they were relatively small and inconspicuous. Unfortunately, the tour was shortened, including the engine room. But that was not possible (and had nothing to do with Corona). In some places (salons) there were also employees on site who could explain something. Unfortunately, they weren't always there, or they were busy with foreign-speaking tourists. The tour is a must for those interested in the maritime sector, but it is also recommended for others, as it is an adventure for children too. But I wouldn't book the full tour again, I'd rather ask on-site what's possible.
