Full description

Explore St. Peter's Basilica, one of Rome's most famed and magnificent sites. Known as the Queen of all the Basilicas, this Renaissance-style church and its dome dominate the skyline of Rome. Discover why the American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson described it as "an ornament of the earth...the sublime of the beautiful".

Marvel at the interior, lavishly decorated with marble, reliefs, architectural sculpture, and gilding. At the heart of the basilica, beneath the high altar, discover the Chapel of the Confession, named after the confession of faith by St. Peter. Marvel at the curving marble staircases that lead to this underground chapel.

Also, listen to the Vox City Guide, a self-guided audio tour with stories from local experts. It works online and is included in the experience. Learn about points of interest, hidden gems, public transport, and where to take the best photos and access Wi-Fi.

Having a guided tour was really helpful because the explanations of all the artwork, statues and alters made the tour much more meaningful. If we had just toured on our own we would have missed a lot of interesting information and it wouldn’t have been nearly as fun and interesting!

The meeting point / counter is located inside St. Peter's Basilica. That could then be described a little better, because otherwise you lose unnecessary time asking yourself. The tour was pleasant and insightful. Guide was very pleasant and due to the relatively few visitors, there was enough time to enjoy the incredibly impressive church.

Our guide Carmela was brilliant! Great storyteller and explained all the history around and in the church. She gets 5 stars! Our experience with Vox Mundi (the arranger of the tour) was unfortunately only 3 stars. In the app on Get Your Guide the meeting point for this tour is set to be outside the church - in the middle of one of the columns- so we waited there for 15 minutes without seeing a guide. Then we called the hotline. The person who picked up the phone was very helpful and after he spoke to Vox Mundi he informed us that the guide was waiting inside the church and that we had to get in the line with everyone else. 30 minutes after the original your start - we met our guide. Vox Mundi was nice and created an extra tour for us (and a couple of other people who were in the same situation as us).
