Top 5 Attractions On A Segway Tour of Rome

Segway tours make for a fun way to discover Rome's history but, let's face it, if you choose to do one you're hardly going to be racing up the Spanish Steps! Here are five great sights in the City of Seven Hills that you can explore on wheels.

Trevi Fountain

Having set the scene to films from La Dolce Vita and Roman Holiday to the Lizzie McGuire Movie, the fabulous Trevi Fountain is as much a popular culture icon as it is an historical one!

Roman Forum

Many of Rome's ancient ruins can be seen at this renowned archaeological site, and it's just a short Segway ride from the Colosseum, Circus Maximus, and Arch of Constantine.

Piazza Navona

If the shape of the square bears an uncanny resemblance to a charioteering stadium, that's because it was built upon the site of Ancient Rome's Stadium of Domitian!

Campo de’ Fiori

The "Field of Flowers" has been a market square since the 15th century. It still runs every morning, but the hustle and bustle continues well into night tour territory too!

St. Peter's Square

You may not be able to ride your Segway through St. Peter's Basilica, but you can still see the spectacular building and its impressive Vatican neighbors from this distinct plaza.

Planning Your Visit

How much does it cost?

Prices for Rome Segway tours start at €30 (per person) but can cost upwards of €150, largely dependent on the length of the tour and the Segway models offered. However, be aware that you may be required to leave a deposit on the machines.

Are there age limits or restrictions?

Your Segway tour is likely to have minimum and maximum weight restrictions in the region of 45kg (100lbs) to 118kg (260lbs). Lighter and heavier individuals can contact the tour provider for more precise information and guidance. Participants are required by law to be at least 16 years of age.

What People Are Saying About Rome

A great experience that's well worth doing

A great Segway experience with Olef. Taught us to ride the Segway then expertly guided us around the amazing city of Rome. His knowledge of Rome is to be applauded and his delivery was great too. A really great and fun way to see thus amazing city.

14 Newbies learned how to ride and had lots of fun!

14 people who had never been on a Segway were quickly and very competently taught how to ride one safely and effectively, then set off for a fun guided tour of ancient Rome with good explanations along the route from excellent guides. Pretty soon, we were all zipping around like we had been born on these machines. We all had a wonderful and informative evening together.

Brilliant fun at the same time as being informative!

I have to say this was my absolute favourite part of my weekend break in Rome. Take a few mins to get used to it....but follow their instructions and you'll up and running sooner than you think. Santi - the guy/guide who took us round for the tour - was absolutely brilliant! Well informed and not too detailed to bore you to tears. Kept us moving along and chatting as we went. We covered so much ground over the course of the 3 hours on the Segway (was great fun whizzing past everyone else walking miles by foot!) Which allowed us to briefly see lots of the main sights, take photos and help us decide which ones to go back and visit in more detail/pay to get into (eg the colosseum) later in the weekend. I'd recommend doing this tour right at the start of your stay to get the most benefit. Segway and Santi are FAR FAR better than doing the open top bus tours which whizz past everything at speed and spend ages sat at bus stops :( DO IT!! You won't be disappointed

I can totally recommend this tour. Fantastic way to see the sights.

After a ten minute lesson on how to use the Segway you are ready for the off , we spoke with our guide about where we had already been in Rome and he tailored our route accordingly so we didn't go back over what we had already visited which was great. Our guide was very no calm and certainly had lots of information about the city. The 3 hours went so quickly we didn't want it to stop. To sum up , If your thinking of doing it DO IT , you won't be disapointed.
