Discover the oldest European public collection of antiquities created by Pope Sixtus IV at the end of the 15th century. This Museum is designed to help you to make all the pieces of old Roman history fit together. You'll begin with the magnificent Capitoline Square, designed by Michelangelo, before entering the museum to learn about incredible marble and bronze statues. Take the chance to see the symbol of Rome, the "She Wolf", before entering the Marcus Aurelius Exedra. The bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius dates back to the 2nd century A.D. Following the statue, you can admire the archaeological ruins of the ancient Capitoline Temple of Jupiter before taking in the incredible views over the Roman Forum from the museum.

Our guide, Vincenzo, began our tour in the square by providing a brief history of the architecture of the square including how to read some of the various coded messages in the statues of Ancient Rome. Upon entering the museum his expert historical knowledge and unique method of explanation transported us back in time to Ancient Rome. His passion and engaging personality made this a most enjoyable experience. I fully recommend this tour to anyone wishing to delve a little deeper into the history of Ancient Rome.
