See all of Rome in a day on a 7-hour sightseeing tour that covers the most important historic sights of the Eternal City, including the Vatican City. Skip the lines to the Colosseum and Vatican Museums, see the fabled Roman Forum and Pantheon, and more.
What to Expect
Take a comprehensive 2-part tour of Rome, including a visit to the monumental Pantheon, with time off for lunch, and see all of the Eternal City’s most important sights in just 7 hours.
Starting at 09:00, meet your guide near the heart of Ancient Rome to begin your tour with the Colosseum. Skip the long lines to go inside this massive structure and wander across the arena floor, while hearing all about the violent games that used to take place there. Hear what made a gladiator, and why violent entertainment was important to the inhabitants of Rome.
Next, head up Via Sacra to the Roman Forum for a glimpse at what life might have been like during the reign of Gaius Julius Caesar, or of Emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus. Before leaving the Forum, your guide will discuss how the Roman Empire expanded so quickly, and why it collapsed.
Then, visit the beautiful Trevi Fountain where, if you toss a coin in the fountain it is said you will one day return to Rome. Continue to the Pantheon, the pagan temple from ancient times and final resting place of the painter Raphael (Sanzio da Urbino), the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, and his succesor, Umberto I.
Your guide will explain the Pantheon’s architecture and show you the oculus, which allowed rain to enter and cool the temple, and sun to enter to provide ethereal light. It’s a few steps from here to Piazza Navona, where fierce rivals Gian Lorenzo Bernini (Fountain of the Four Rivers) and Francesco Borromini (Church of St. Agnes in Agony) clashed with stunning representations of Baroque art.
Retire for lunch on your own. Your guide will be happy to make recommendations.
Meet again next to the entrance to the Vatican Museums. Skip more long lines to go inside the major galleries, including the Pio-Clementine Museum, Room of the Muses, Round Room, Greek Cross Room, Gallery of Tapestries, Gallery of Maps, Rooms of Raphael, and Michelangelo’s sublime Sistine Chapel.
Finally, head to St. Peter's Square where the tour concludes on the portico. If you want to visit the church, your guide will provide you with skip-the-line access.
