What to Expect
Spend a morning and afternoon on 2 separate tours (6.5 hours in all) and see the best of Rome and the Vatican in just one day!

Morning Tour: The Coliseum and the Gems of Rome
Walk in the steps of the famous gladiators, Commodus and Spartacus, and prominent leaders, Julius Caesar and Augustus, during this skip-the-line tour. Imagine yourself standing in the center of a vast arena with over 60,000 chanting spectators ready to watch you in all your glory: This is the Coliseum.

This iconic symbol of Imperial Rome was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on classical mythology.

Next, you’ll take a walk along the Imperial Fora, a series of public squares constructed between 46 B.C. and 113 A.D. Continue on to Venice Square, where the unification of Italy is celebrated with its imposing national monument, the Vittoriano.

Your local guide will stop in Torre di Largo Argentina so you can see the place where Julius Caesar was assassinated, before leading you to Piazza della Rotonda, where you’ll find the Pantheon, one of the most beautiful and best preserved buildings from ancient times.

The story of the Pantheon began nearly 2,000 years ago when Agrippa, the faithful friend of Augustus, built a temple dedicated to all the gods in the heavens. In those days its appearance was very different, and it was Hadrian who rebuilt the Pantheon as you see it now.

Your morning tour ends in Navona Square, one of the most elegant squares in the world, and a tribute to the Roman baroque style.

Afternoon Program: The Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica
This special tour of the Vatican, the most famous city-state in the world, begins in the Vatican Museums. The private collection of the pope is one of the most prestigious in the world. You’ll see ancient statues from Egypt, Greece, and Rome, sarcophagi, busts, frescoes, and tapestries, and paintings from most every period of world history.

An important stop on the tour is the Sistine Chapel, where you’ll be able to see the magnificent frescoes by Michelangelo. Follow your tour guide into St. Peter’s Basilica, and admire even more works of art, including the canopy by Bernini, the bronze statue of St. Peter, and the Pietà by Michelangelo.

As you exit the Basilica you’ll see the obelisk in St. Peter’s Square that was brought to the site from Egypt. Enjoy the view of the magnificent colonnade by Bernini as your afternoon tour comes to an end.
