Full description

Escape the crowds of the Colosseum and Vatican, and explore the darker side of Rome on a guided tour of the ancient catacombs and crypts. Venture to parts of the city that few visitors ever see, traveling between sites by air-conditioned minibus. First, follow your guide to 3 memorable sites, each revealing the extraordinary secrets of Ancient Rome. They include the labyrinthine Roman Catacombs that were part burial ground and part refuge for the persecuted early Christians of Ancient Rome. Then, visit the Capuchin Crypt, known locally as the “Bone Chapel,” and marvel at the walls, decorated with the bones more than 4,000 monks. To finish out the day in style, visit perhaps one of the most spectacular sites in all of Rome - the Roman Aqueducts. Enjoy time to explore and understand this monumental landmark from a stunning vantage point.

Our guide was fabulous! She was very informative and kept the tour interesting and captivating. We felt like this tour really showed a part of Rome that might be rarely seen. Please note : this tour does not drop you off at the tours start. It’s entirely not a big deal because walking in Rome is a major part of seeing the sights. Check out the pyramid and the sites around there. Unfortunately, a Karen on our tour decided to takeout her frustration on our most gracious Italian guide and make a scene because her party was dropped off away from the start. Don’t be a Karen!

This tour went above my expectations. Our guide, Federico, was amazing in both the quality of the information he was sharing and also the energy he brought to the tour. This isn’t a tour that every person coming to Rome typically does like the coliseum, Vatican, etc. However, that is a shame as the sites visited in this tour are just as memorable and in some ways more interesting. If you are looking for something unique, and are interested in history, then I can’t recommend this tour enough. I will be looking into what other tours Federico’s company, TakeWalks, does in Italy!

Very nice tour, especially the bone chapel is very impressive. However, you have to understand English very well in order to be able to follow everything. Our guide Andy was really great, courteous, helpful and made the whole tour very entertaining and with a lot of humor. Definitely to recommend.
