Full description

Discover the history of this mausoleum-turned-museum with skip-the-line, hosted access. Located on the right bank of the Tiber only a short distance from the Vatican City, the Castel Sant'Angelo is an ancient fortress with centuries of history. Explore the museum's seven floors to discover an extensive collection of ancient artifacts and perfectly preserved frescoes from the Renaissance period. Built in 135 AD for the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the building has played an important part in Rome’s architectural history. Climb the spiral staircase to reach the Chamber of Ashes where a number of historical figures were incarcerated, before continuing up to visit the Papal Residence. Immerse yourself in the stories of each different room as you admire the art within. Finish your experience with a panoramic view over Rome and the River Tiber from the castle terrace. A great opportunity to take some photos of the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge, also known as the Bridge of Angels.

Our experience was just good, not excellent because this trip did not have a guide. We thought it was a guided tour and booked without verifying completely. The website tricked us though, to our surprise when the agent with big red shirt outside the castle told us it’s not a guided tour. We went inside and tried to understand by reading every notification which took us almost 4 hours!!! A guided tour would have saved our time and we would have got better information. However. I would highly recommend it. So much of history! So much to explore! Worth it. PS: Whoever the agent was at the gate sounded RUDE, IMPOLITE, had an ATTITUDE. Beware!!!

The Castel Sant'Angelo surprises inside with unexpected richly decorated rooms, it took us 2 hours for the tour without a guide to see everything. Unfortunately, it rained very heavily during our visit and Rome could only be admired in the haze, one could guess that it is a spectacular view when the weather is good. We got the tickets very easily in front of the Castel Sant'Angelo after showing the booking.

Very beautiful vestiges of the past of Rome in excellent condition! Only regret is that there is no explanation in French (only Italian and English) so without a French guide and without being bilingual, it is difficult to understand all the information. But the view of Rome and the Vatican is magnificent!
