Full description
Learn the story of one of the world’s great empires on a 3-hour tour of Rome, and travel back to the days of the Roman Republic at the city’s main imperial monuments. Meet your guide by the Colosseum to start your tour at the Flavian amphitheater, commissioned by Emperor Vespasian in 72 AD, and inaugurated by his son Titus in 80 AD. Your guide will bring history to life, telling stories of the ferocious battles between man and beast put on for the Roman citizens. Next, follow in the footsteps of Roman emperors on a walk through the Imperial Forum, and learn how it was once the center of all religious, political and commercial life in Rome. Hear the history of the Temple of Concord and Temple of Saturn and Vesta, and learn about the Tabularium, an impressive temple to Antoninus and Faustina. Ascend Palatine Hill, one of the “7 Hills of Rome,” where Augustus moved his sumptuous villa in 44 BC. Hear how the Temple of Victory was used to house Cybele's sacred stone between 204 BC and 191 BC, and learn about the Temple of Jupiter Stator, founded by Romulus after a battle with the Sabines. Go to the main terrace of Palatine Hill for a full insight into the Maximum Circus, where the legendary chariot races of the Roman Republic were held.

Our guide's story was very captivating

On the other hand, it is regrettable to buy a ticket including the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill and the forums, on the 1st Sunday of October while the entrance to the Colosseum is free on the first Sunday of each month; You buy a skip-the-line ticket to avoid the queues, but you are still forced to follow a queue dedicated to tour operators. Not recommended for the elderly

This tour was truly an amazing and breathtaking experience! My husband and I were blessed with the fact that no one else signed up for the tour so it was just us and our wonderful guide Lea. She answered all our questions and made the tour so very unique. Every part of the experience was perfect and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to experience and amazing piece of history. It was worth every dollar we spent and even more! This is a must do if it is your first time to Rome!

Re-tracing part of Roman history in 3-hrs

Enjoyed this professionally run guided tour of the Colosseum and the immediate historic site. Our tour guide was cheerful and kind. She is a professional Rome born archealogist and very knowledgeable about the site history. She holds a PhD. We benefited a lot and able to establish now some awareness on Roman history.
