From Rome: Pompeii and Herculaneum by High-Speed Train

Michael was an amazing guide. His archaeological background, his love of all things Italian and his humanity for the tragic lives lost made him the perfect guide. Pasquale was a skilled and professional driver who saved the day by overcoming a mechanical difficulty. The behind the scenes support staff were courteous, communicative and specific with meet up instructions. As someone not from Italy, that was invaluable.

Our tour representative picked us up at Naples train station. We wish, he had a bigger signboard for us to spot him quickly. The van and the trip to Pompeii was comfortable. Our tour guide was excellent and explained well in English. The sad history of Pompeii and seeing it first-hand with a good narration was a different experience than reading in books. Lunch experience could have been better. As there were only two/three eating places at the entrance of the UN Heritage Site in Pompeii, it would have been ideal for the tour operator to provide pre-arranged pizza lunch. It was hard to get seating at the restaurent and finish eating in 60 min! The tour of Herculaneum was excellent too. Both the sites were wonderful and portrayed the unexpected hot wind and shower of ashes from volcano eruption that blanketed people with death. However, it preserved history. My wife and I enjoyed this information filled awesome trip, although there was a lot of walking on uneven, stone paved streets
