Full description
The eruption in AD 79 spelled a fiery end for Pompeii, but the catastrophe also almost entirely preserved the port city under layers of Volcanic ash. Thousands of years later, you can still explore the eerie streets and step inside homes, bathhouses, and fast-food places. You’ll travel from Rome to Pompeii in an air-conditioned private coach, accompanied all the way by your expert tour coordinator. Benefit from skip-the-line entry as one of Pompeii’s own officially licensed guides shows you around the city, painting a vivid picture of life in final days before the eruption. Throughout the ruins, you’ll come across death casts: plaster recreations of unfortunate citizens preserved by the superheated volcanic ash. After visiting Pompeii, the coach will take you up the slope of Mt. Vesuvius (from April to mid-November), one of Europe’s few active volcanoes located in the Vesuvius National Park. From here, take a short hike up to the steaming crater for stunning views of Capri and Sorrento. During the winter season between November and March, Mt. Vesuvius is closed, so your tour will follow the coastline and take you to the city of Naples, where you can explore the iconic Castle Nuovo, the famous art deco Umberto I Gallery, or simply wander around the monumental Plebiscito Square.

This would have been excellent but we didn’t get the promised tour guide in Pompeii itself. We were given maps and tips on where to go then left to our own devices. Otherwise everything was perfect. Our host Allessandra was truly excellent. She was full of knowledge and so helpful in every way. She entertained us all the way there and back on the bus with information and myths and legends. She advised us on what to do, see and eat in Rome, Pompeii and Naples and even bought us all a present. The coach was comfortable and the journey was smooth with Vladimirio at the wheel. Altogether a fantastic day.

We were the only ones on the tour. Nevertheless this took place and we had a very friendly guide and a great driver. Due to Corona, it was not possible to climb Mount Vesuvius and eat in the restaurant. Nevertheless, a trip to Naples was quickly organized as an alternative. Class! Would recommend this trip to everyone at the moment. Particular attention was paid to the corona measures!

Pompeii was fantastic and it was an exciting tour with a good guide. However, we would have liked a little more time to look, admire and take pictures - the trip was going strong! After Pompeii and lunch we went on to Naples, where we had an hour to walk around on our own. This part of the trip was, frankly, a bit pointless, and we would rather have spent longer in Pompeii or returned to Rome earlier.
