Our guide, Robert, was fantastic, he has a good sense of humour and seems to enjoy what he does. Pompeii was beautiful and the view from the top of Mount Vesuvius was spectacular.
This was a long day, starting at 7.30am and even earlier as we had time reach the meeting spot by public transport. Everything from the guides to the coaches to the rest stops was well organised. The only thing that wasn't organised was some of the other inconsiderate tourists on the trip that would come back after the meeting time or go off to the loos when we were about to start so the guide was constantly looking for them. The guide at Pompeii was great. I had worried about footwear for the hike to Vesuvius but trainers were fine. the coach takes you most if the way up then you have to walk up the last 800m. Sounds easy, but it was so hard in the 37° heat. Underfoot is slippy shale and sand so you need good grips and plenty of water. There are no signs to say how long to the top. it took us about 30 minutes The views are worth it. There are 3 levels, but you the second one gives you the same view as highest. Downhill was easy. Very well organised and the best part of our Rome trip.

Know before you go
- The hike up to the crater of Vesuvius is optional and requires a good level of general fitness to complete. The hike is uphill at a 14-degree angle and 20 minutes long (about 1 mile). The hike is prevalently on soft ground, and adequate footwear is recommended. For those who prefer a more leisurely experience, you can instead choose to enjoy a scenic and informative walking tour led by an expert geologist at Vesuvius.
- In rare cases of inclement weather or strikes, the crater of Vesuvius may be closed to visitors and an alternative visit to the city of Sorrento will be included instead where you will get free time to explore the city.
- Please be advised that in the case of events beyond our control, we may need to adjust our itinerary to ensure the safety, quality, and satisfaction of your travel experience.
- Children under the age of 18 might be requested to show their ID card
